CHAPTER 49: The Charm of That Sword

This old gao was clearly human in appearance, how could he possess the fire control of the holy clan? Could it be that Du Shiqing's bodyguard actually had an extraordinary background?

Moreover... the journey had been surprisingly calm until now, hadn't it?

Chu Yang was deep in thought when suddenly, the Nine Calamity Sword in his dantian gave a violent jump, and an extreme sense of danger surged from his heart, causing every hair on his body to stand on end. His gaze sharpened, and without even turning around, he spun his body, rolled, and then leapt up, changing direction mid-air. In an instant, he moved from beside the fire to behind a tree, a shift of position that was almost unbelievable.

Then came a sharp whistle as a massive stone slab, several yards wide, fell from the sky, crashing toward Du Shiqing's position! The accuracy of its aim was astonishingly precise!

Du Shiqing was right in the center of the stone's lethal range!

Old Gao shouted angrily, his aged body suddenly transforming into that of a spry leopard, leaping forward. But it was already too late; at that moment, Chu Yang bizarrely appeared beside the massive stone, a sword appearing from his hand as if conjured from thin air, and he thrust it out like a venomous snake.

The tip of the sword struck the edge of the stone slab at an angle, like a poisonous dragon.

Clang!

The stone slab, which was violently spinning as it fell, met the sword precisely at the gap in its rotation, causing its descent to slow ever so slightly.

It was as if a mountain was falling, perfectly landing on the tip of a lever! The subtlety of that moment was indescribable.

Suddenly, the stone’s recoil force erupted like thunder, slamming into Chu Yang’s chest as if he had been struck by the stone itself. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and flipped backward in mid-air.

But he had ultimately bought a sliver of time! Even if it was a minuscule amount, a duration so brief that an ordinary person wouldn’t even have time to blink—

But just that slight delay allowed Old Gao's body to flash like lightning between the ground and the slab. With a furious shout, he delivered a fist that shone with a bright white light, shattering the stone that weighed thousands of pounds, causing it to rain down like stone hail!

Du Shiqing was unharmed!

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Black arrows rained down from the mountaintop, enveloping the area from all directions.

“Form ranks! Prepare for battle!” Knight Leader shouted, and the eight men rolled on the ground in unison, nimbly reaching their warhorses. In the next moment, they each held round shields in their hands. Though they dodged quickly, one knight still ended up with arrows piercing his shoulder and calf, the iron arrows carrying flesh and blood as they shot into the void.

Before the scream could finish, three shields from his companions protected him completely. The sound of thuds echoed as the iron arrows formed a curtain of metal.

Thud, thud... the sound of arrows embedding themselves in the ground resembled rain hitting a sand pit; the ground over several dozen yards had transformed into a giant porcupine!

Old Gao let out a sharp cry, his body spinning into a dark whirlwind as he snatched two or three dozen arrows from mid-air before they even hit the ground. With a flick of his wrist, the arrows transformed into several black lightning bolts that flew back. Without pausing, he scooped up Du Shiqing, his body flashing like gray mist, already beside the carriage, and in the next moment, Du Shiqing was shoved back into the carriage compartment.

With a series of popping sounds, the incoming arrows instantly changed direction, raining down on the carriage like a torrential downpour, shaking the entire vehicle violently, but not a single arrow could penetrate inside!

This carriage was actually specially made!

In the dim forest, the sounds of the arrows shot back by Old Gao embedding into the trees echoed, along with a brief scream.

The next moment, Old Gao appeared, his face cloaked in a bluish hue. His first reaction wasn't to fight back but to glance deeply at Chu Yang’s position. Only he understood how difficult that sword strike had been!
