Mo Ye was lost in thought as she touched the old rifle in her hands, standing in the corner of the wall.
“Xiao Ye, what’s wrong? You’ve been absent-minded since you returned,” a middle-aged man in his forties, holding an automatic rifle, said. His gaze shifted back and forth over a group of mutated mice that were gradually approaching from a distance. Although he appeared relaxed, the hand gripping the rifle was unusually pale. Anyone would feel tense facing hundreds of mice the size of small cats.
Mo Ye cleared her throat a couple of times and shook her head, saying, “It’s nothing, just that these big mice are too disgusting.”
The middle-aged man chuckled, “I thought you were scared by that big monster.”
“Mo Jie wouldn’t be scared; she once faced six burly men with daggers and didn’t flinch, taking them all down.” A young man with a carefree laugh, still showing traces of teenage acne, chimed in.
“Indeed, Mo Jie is someone; she’s the champion of the women’s fighting championship in the provincial armed police system and ranks in the top five in the free combat group!” A burly man turned his head and looked at the young guy with a smile, “Do you know what it means to be in the top five? It means only four beasts among the male armed police in the province are stronger than Mo Jie, and the others would kneel when they see her!”
This conversation eased the tension in the five-member team, lightening the previously strained atmosphere.
“Mo Mo’s shooting skills are also impressive,” another woman in the group, a mature woman in her early thirties, said. Although she was dressed in camouflage and wore long combat boots, her mature charm was undeniable, radiating a captivating allure.
In terms of appearance, this woman was slightly different from Mo Ye, but her mature elegance and graceful demeanor made up for the difference. Even among the male officers in the armed police department, she overshadowed Mo Ye and firmly occupied the title of the first goddess of the armed police force.
However, if you considered her a weak woman, you would be greatly mistaken. She had worked on the front lines for eight years, completing hundreds of tasks with a 100% success rate—a record that had never been broken. Only Mo Ye came close, having maintained her own 100% completion rate for four years, but she still had a significant gap from this sister.
Later, this female officer married and transitioned to a civilian role, trading one legend for a multifaceted logistics officer.
“Sister Lei, you’re teasing me. Who doesn’t know that you hold eight out of the twelve shooting records in our department?”
“Ah, but I haven’t held a gun in a long time; I’m getting old and can’t shoot a pistol anymore.”
The three men laughed heartily. Apart from Xia Lei, only Mo Ye blushed. As a captain who had never even had a boyfriend, she couldn’t help but be affected by such implicit jokes.
This five-member team was hastily formed. Originally, Mo Ye had her own subordinates, but after the apocalypse began, few could return to headquarters. Out of the eight members, only the young man and the burly guy were under Mo Ye’s command.
The middle-aged man had once been Mo Ye’s instructor at school. He later sustained an injury and, like Xia Lei, transitioned to a civilian role.
When the apocalypse began, some people fled to headquarters, while others became trapped and couldn’t return home. This middle-aged man, like Mo Ye, returned from home to headquarters, but unlike Mo Ye, who had no relatives in the city, he had lost all of his family.
“Little Tiger, why are you laughing? Jackie Chan is all alone. He can eat well, but what about your elderly parents? Aren’t you worried about them?” Cheng Ze lightly kicked the young man aside and scolded him with a smile.
“Worry about what? Cheng, you don’t know what my parents are like. They are in great health and very clever. They’re probably hiding and waiting for me to find them. Once I become an evolver, I’ll go back; there’s no rush.”
