Chapter 169: Farewell on the Night of the Duke's Capital 🌙

Satou here. Infiltrating enemy territory to rescue captured comrades and loved ones is a classic scene in movies, but it rarely happens in reality. However, in another world, it seems to be quite common...

“Yahoo! Fried chicken after such a long time!”

“Yay~!” “It’s fried chicken~!”

Arisa was overjoyed looking at the fried chicken on her plate.

For about a week, fried foods had been banned. I had forgotten Arisa’s age, and the dieting efforts were too effective, so I changed the policy to only prohibit snacking and overeating. Of course, I didn’t tell Arisa that I miscalculated—I just told her I was easing up a bit.

Mia’s portion was bamboo shoot mixed rice and stewed vegetables. The bamboo shoot was a mysterious (fantasy) ingredient called “ku-itake” — it looks like green bamboo but can be eaten just like normal bamboo shoots. I wish it didn’t require removing the bitterness, but it wasn’t that easy.

“Huh? What kind of fried chicken is this? Not chicken, not pork. I’ve definitely eaten it before, but I can’t remember~”

While Arisa was chewing the first piece, the three beast girls demanded seconds, so I took some fried “whale” out of the heat-retaining magical artifact and put it on their plates.

There’s plenty, so eat as much as you want.

I didn’t expect there to be so much. Considering the source, it’d be a shame to recklessly hold a whale meat festival.

If I had gotten it a bit earlier, I would have thought about transporting it to Baron Muno’s Domain, but the food situation there had already been improved. More accurately, arrangements had been made.

At a tea party, when I brought up the topic a little, a talkative lady introduced me to a noble who happened to have an excess of such goods and was troubled by it. Thanks to that, I managed to purchase large amounts of old rice, dried fish, pickles, and so on at low prices. They’re currently being transported to Baron Muno’s Domain. Since it was a large volume, I hired mercenaries as escorts. The introduction was from Viscount Seemen, a powerful figure in the Duke’s Capital, so it should be reliable.

Back to the story.

Arisa, who had been chewing thoughtfully, seemed to finally recall what kind of meat it was.

“I got it, it’s whale!”

As expected of Arisa.

“They served whale stew and Tatsuta-age at school lunch before. But how did you get whale meat?”

“Oh, it just arrived recently.”

See, Arisa hasn’t seen the great monster fish. So she doesn’t realize great monster fish equals whale. Sometimes it’s better not to know.

“Hamburg steak is great, but whale fried chicken is even better!”

“Yummy~”

Tama, sounding like a person from Nagoya, stuffed the fried chicken into her mouth. Looks like she liked it.

“Master, isn’t this meat expensive? It feels like I’m gaining strength with every bite.”

Really? When I tested it for poison a couple of days ago, I didn’t notice anything like that. Maybe it’s Liza’s way of expressing how tasty it is.

“With every bite~” “Niku Wakī Chī Odorigui!” (meat dancing eater)

Yeah, Pochi, I get that you like it, but calm down and eat quietly. Don’t say scary things like meat giving you power.

That reminded me of the meat people from an old game.

“It’s truly delicious. Pochi, Tama, those fried chickens you’re holding on your forks are the ones I saved. Be satisfied with those two. Ah, Nana, don’t swallow so carelessly—taste it more. Lulu, if you hesitate, you’ll miss out—eat more.”

And Liza, calm down.

Everyone’s requesting seconds so intensely that it’s hard to eat calmly. Maybe moving the fried chicken to a large plate from the heat-retaining magical artifact was a mistake.

The bamboo shoot rice and whale fried chicken go so well together—that’s the problem.

“Ugh, Satou...”

Sulking Mia made me promise to make a new dessert, but oh well. I really need to branch out from just meat dishes.

I was thinking of serving some to Miss Karina and her group, but they said they had plans with her younger brother and went out.
