CHAPTER SIX HUNDRED AND TWENTY: CONICAL ATTACK
As soon as Zhao Hai saw the several mermaids, he was taken aback. The mermaids he had encountered before were mostly dressed in shells or green robes, and he had rarely seen them in other clothing. Laura had also asked the mermaids why they did not wear clothes, and they explained that it was not intentional; they believed that not wearing clothes allowed them to feel the water element better, which was very beneficial for their training.
However, the mermaids who emerged from the azure dragon conch were not dressed as Zhao Hai had seen before. They were all clad in armor, holding staffs, which surprised Zhao Hai.
The armor worn by these mermaids appeared to be made of a combination of shells and magical beast tendons. It was deep blue and very beautiful, with helmets that enhanced their already lovely appearance by adding a touch of heroism.
The staffs they held were also quite special. They looked like they were made of crystal—clear and translucent—but one end was extremely sharp, making it usable as a melee weapon.
Zhao Hai looked at these mermaids and couldn't help but smile bitterly. It truly was a gift for the mermaids; they not only had a natural affinity for the water element, making them innate water mages, but they could also control magical beasts. Moreover, their physical strength was considerable, allowing them to handle general melee combat; they were practically all-rounders.
After the few mermaids blocked Zhao Hai and his companions, they glanced at them and then bowed to Dashan and Zhao Hai, saying, "General Luo Ying is waiting for Commander Dashan and Mr. Zhao Hai. Please follow us."
Both Zhao Hai and Dashan nodded and followed the mermaid warriors into the azure dragon conch. Inside, the space was not small, but the mounts of Zhao Hai and Dashan were too large to maneuver comfortably.
Zhao Hai turned to Lolo and Laura and said, "The space inside is limited. I need to put away the blade scale whale. Lolo, you can swim over by yourself; I won't manage it. Laura, gather around me."
Laura and the others responded and gathered near Zhao Hai. He waved his staff, creating a massive bubble that surrounded them, then proceeded to store the blade scale whale.
Once the blade scale whale was put away, the space inside the azure dragon conch seemed to have expanded significantly. Lolo swam over to the mermaid warriors, bowed to them, and called them "sisters." The mermaid warriors also returned her greeting, with two of them giving Lolo affectionate looks.
Dashan also let his mount swim out, and only then did they continue into the azure dragon conch. They swam up along the conch until they reached a hall-like area. The floor was made from beast bones and aquatic plants, with some chairs and tables made of bone wood arranged inside, giving it the appearance of a war hall.
What surprised Zhao Hai the most was that there wasn’t a single drop of water in this hall. At the far end, there was a couch that resembled a small bed, where a mermaid warrior was lying down.
As Zhao Hai and his companions entered the hall, Dashan and Lolo both bowed to the mermaid warrior, saying, "We meet General Luo Ying."
Luo Ying looked up at Lolo and the others, nodded, and only then did Zhao Hai lead Laura to bow to Luo Ying, saying, "Mr. Zhao Hai meets General Luo Ying."
Luo Ying stood up and bowed to Zhao Hai, saying, "Luo Ying meets Mr. Zhao Hai. The mermaid clan is incredibly grateful for your gallant assistance this time." Her voice was somewhat cold, much like her appearance. Although mermaids were all beautiful, there were distinctions—like the Lady King, who exuded a grand, mature, and elegant beauty; Lolo, who radiated a youthful and sunny beauty; and this general, who gave off an air of cold elegance and strong presence.
After the greetings, Luo Ying invited Zhao Hai and the others to sit down. She then turned to Dashan, saying, "You arrived just in time. In recent days, the sea dragon clan has intensified their attacks against us, and they have new skilled fighters among them. Our losses have been heavy, and the number of people at the front line has dropped below four million. Your arrival is just what we need to replenish our forces."
