CHAPTER 621: The Messenger Fish
Zhao Hai did not know that this seahorse was not an ordinary seahorse or just a larger version; it was actually an otherworldly beast.
Whether on the Ark Continent or among the sea tribe people, there are some otherworldly beasts. Otherworldly beasts are magical beasts but are not the same as ordinary magical beasts.
Magical beasts are generally wild animals that can cast magic, while otherworldly beasts refer to magical beasts that can use otherworldly techniques. These two points are quite different, and their strength varies greatly.
Magical beasts cast magic through the magic crystals inside their bodies, which is why they are called magical beasts. Otherworldly beasts, however, can use magic but also possess an innate otherworldly technique, which is slightly more powerful than magic. Thus, most people would prefer to face high-level magical beasts rather than provoke otherworldly beasts.
The seahorses that Luo Ying and the others were riding were indeed otherworldly beasts!
These seahorses appeared enormous and moved rather slowly, but that was merely an appearance. In reality, they possessed water magic and were also ice-type otherworldly beasts.
It is known throughout the continent that otherworldly beasts must be magical beasts, but not all magical beasts are otherworldly beasts. Luo Ying and the others' mounts belonged to a very peculiar race; they were both otherworldly beasts and magical beasts, famous in the sea, and they were called ice seahorses.
Although the name "ice seahorse" sounds quite ordinary, ice and water do have certain distinctions, especially in their attack power. The ice seahorse is actually a water-type magical beast that, after mutation, can use ice-type otherworldly techniques.
Ice-type otherworldly beasts generally originate from water-type magical beasts, while most water-type magical beasts do not possess ice-type otherworldly techniques. This distinction is the same as that between magical beasts and otherworldly beasts.
Although ice and water may seem similar, many water-type magical beasts can also use ice-type otherworldly techniques. However, in reality, it is more accurate to say that ice-type otherworldly beasts use water magic.
In terms of both offense and defense, water-type beasts are significantly weaker than ice-type beasts. The ice seahorse, on the other hand, can use both water magic and ice-type otherworldly techniques. Their water magic does not have a high attack power among sea beasts but provides a significant speed boost once activated. Most magical beasts in the sea cannot catch up to them. Their only ice-type otherworldly technique is the ice spike technique!
They use their water magic behind themselves, almost as if adding a propulsion device, allowing them to run faster. The ice spike technique creates an attack akin to having a weapon in front of them. The ice spikes they launch are not only fast but also have considerable attack power and can strike consecutively. Thus, in the Endless Sea, the ice seahorse also holds the title of the Blazing Ice Spike Beast.
This title does not imply that the ice seahorse possesses fire-type techniques but rather that they can escape in the sea as if they were on fire. While not a glorious title, it is certainly a headache for the sea tribe people.
Zhao Hai curiously looked at the enormous ice seahorse but said nothing, instead directing the blade scale whale towards the battlefield. Dashan and Luo Ying followed Zhao Hai on either side.
Soon, they reached the battlefield, where many corpses floated. However, the sea tribe people did not move. One should know that seawater flows, and it wouldn’t take long for these corpses to be washed away. This is also why Zhao Hai and the others did not see any corpses when they arrived.
The sea tribe people do not have the custom of burying their dead. On the contrary, most of the sea tribe conduct sea burials. This means that when someone dies, they will place the body in a large shell from the sea and let it drift away. If they cannot find a shell, they will simply let the body drift in the ocean.
