CHAPTER 78: The Evaluation of History's Rights and Wrongs
“Regret? Iron Dragon City has no regrets. To die on the battlefield is the destiny of a soldier!” Iron Dragon City’s gaze remained steady, as if looking into the void. “Although I am saddened, I will never regret!”
“Saddened?” Gu Duxing chuckled coldly. “When you personally buried these fine young men, sending them to slaughter, did you feel sad? It must be noted that while the general may be at fault and not in harmony with you, the soldiers are innocent! You could have taken other methods to preserve the soldiers.”
Gu Duxing truly could not imagine that such things could happen in this world! The better the person, the more iron-blooded the man, the more likely they were to be sacrificed and abandoned!
What kind of ridiculous theory was this?
And the ones committing such absurd acts were actually the high-ranking officials of two superpowers! Two individuals who should be benefiting the people had turned into two cruel executioners, sending millions of their country’s fine young men to their deaths!
“If I didn’t do this, how could I gain the trust of Diwu Qingrou? Though I am saddened by the deaths of these soldiers, I do not regret!” Iron Dragon City said coldly. “Their deaths preserved the sixty million people of Iron Cloud! Without their sacrifice, Iron Cloud would have become the territory of Great Zhao eight years ago! All the men and women of Iron Cloud would have become slaves, subjected to humiliation and bullying!”
“I, Iron Dragon City, have done this detestable deed, but I do not regret it! Future historians will label me as a villain when they discover the truth of these eight years! But I have no regrets! If I could live through it again, I would still make the same choice.”
“If I, Iron Dragon City, had surrendered and allowed Great Zhao to invade, the loss to myself wouldn’t have been too great. In Iron Cloud, I am a prince, a grand marshal. Even in Great Zhao, while I may not be a prince, I would still be a noble. Even if I’m not a grand marshal, and not above ten thousand, I wouldn’t be reduced to a state of being bullied by others, even Diwu Qingrou wouldn’t dare!”
“And now I bear such a historic disgrace, but so what?” Iron Dragon City smiled. “Someone has to bear the disgrace. As long as Iron Cloud can be preserved, I am the best candidate to bear this disgrace.”
“But bearing this disgrace is not easy,” Chu Yang snorted. “Since you work so closely together, then in this mutual advantage cooperation, there must be infiltration of each other’s ranks, right?”
Iron Dragon City stiffened, and a sharp glint suddenly shot from his eyes as he looked at Chu Yang, yet he said nothing.
“Eight full years! Eight years of battle, both sides suffered severe casualties. Naturally, more fresh blood is required to replenish. And these people will inevitably rise to high positions through victories! However, this is also the best timing to arrange for spies! I don’t believe you, Iron Grand Marshal, haven’t done this.”
Iron Dragon City’s expression turned cold, remaining silent.
“Just as I believe that Diwu Qingrou has already arranged personnel in Iron Cloud. Moreover, although you are cunning, understand tactics, and can see through the situation to secure maximum benefits for your side, you have a broader vision; but unlike Diwu Qingrou, you are not a successful schemer and politician. So I am more convinced that…”
Chu Yang smiled, but the words he spoke sent chills down Iron Dragon City’s spine: “…if you have arranged ten people in Great Zhao, then Diwu Qingrou’s spies in Iron Cloud will definitely exceed a hundred! A tenfold difference!”
He paused and said, “I’m referring to the military, the commanding generals!”
Iron Dragon City let out a soft sigh.
“So, from the surface, Iron Cloud now appears to be solid as gold, an impregnable fortress. But if Diwu Qingrou truly opens the curtain for a decisive battle, Iron Cloud will still be as vulnerable as it was eight years ago!”
