CHAPTER FIFTY: "Snatching a Wife, Snatching a Wife..."
As the sun set in the west, the sky was painted in hues of red and gold, illuminating the forest between the mountains in a cascade of colors.
Chu Yang walked out, holding Mo Qingwu, with a smile on his face. It seemed as though he had stepped out from a fairy tale. Dressed in flowing black clothes, his tall figure contrasted with Mo Qingwu in her bright red attire, nestled in his embrace.
The sunlight on the horizon seemed to outline Chu Yang and Mo Qingwu with a golden glow. At least, that was how it appeared to Mo Tianji, who was captivated by this moment of breathtaking beauty.
The feeling was so harmonious, so moving.
Mo Qingwu seemed to have grown roots in Chu Yang's embrace, refusing to come down. From time to time, she would lift her head and smile at Chu Yang, then after a while, she would do it again, her smile radiant and content.
Mo Tianji stood there, stunned by the sight.
He had been waiting there all afternoon, his heart burning with impatience. However, seeing Chu Yang finally emerge with Mo Qingwu, he felt a sudden wave of emotions wash over him.
He was no longer anxious.
Never before had he seen his little sister so happy. Such overflowing joy and satisfaction radiating from her core!
Mo Tianji looked on with contentment, the anxiety of waiting all afternoon seemed to vanish at that moment.
"Brother Mo, I've taken Mo Qingwu with me," Chu Yang said solemnly as he looked at Mo Tianji.
Hearing the words "Brother Mo," Mo Qingwu startled and raised her head, turning to see Mo Tianji, her second brother. Her eyes turned red, but she bit her lip gently and lowered her gaze.
"Qingwu..." Mo Tianji took a step forward, his voice trembling slightly.
Mo Qingwu bit her lip for a long time before she finally managed to say, "Second Brother..."
"Qingwu, are you going to come with me, or are you going with Brother Chu?" Mo Tianji looked longingly at his sister. "Second Brother will protect you well."
"I’ll go with Brother Chu Yang," Mo Qingwu replied without hesitation.
Mo Tianji’s expression darkened.
"I'm leaving now," Chu Yang said, looking at Mo Tianji. "Brother Mo, if you want to take control of the Mo Family, don't miss this opportunity."
"Alright," Mo Tianji agreed and suddenly called out, "Wait a moment."
Without waiting for a response, he jogged up to Mo Qingwu and said, "Little sister, there’s something I’ve wanted to ask you, but I never found the chance. Can I get your answer now?"
"What is it?" Mo Qingwu asked, still biting her rosy lip. The light in her eyes made Mo Tianji feel a strange heartache.
"Why did you suddenly become so distant from your second brother?" Mo Tianji spoke with some pain. "Second Brother feels so upset."
Mo Qingwu bit her lip, clearly using a lot of strength. She looked at Mo Tianji with a complex expression and quietly asked, "I also want to ask Second Brother... Why did you dare not even look at me that day during the family meeting?"
Mo Tianji was taken aback, his head jolting up.
But Mo Qingwu continued, "At that time, you spoke of my dagger, why did you let it slip?"
Mo Tianji froze, feeling a bitter pang in his heart, words failing him.
"The family has arranged a marriage for me. If I return, I will be engaged. You were the first to come and meet me," Mo Qingwu said with a hint of irritation. "Second Brother, don't you know what I will face when I go back?"
Mo Tianji was struck as if by lightning, taking three steps back! He finally realized where he had gone wrong.
He was at fault for… not saying anything! Doing everything but failing to communicate clearly.
Every action had been for Mo Qingwu's sake. He hadn’t dared to meet her gaze because he couldn’t bear to see his little sister in pain. Yet he forgot that in that moment, she was the most helpless and needed someone to acknowledge her existence; that would have comforted her immensely.
The dagger’s appearance was meant as a last-ditch effort to provide her some care after she lost her standing in the family. But he neglected to realize that she had lost everything, and that dagger was all her hope and spiritual support. And he had cruelly taken it away...
