The Water Magician

Chapter 49: Training of Amon 🏋️‍♂️

Published: July 4, 2025

Since it's Golden Week, here's an additional post.

Ryo and Amon were in the Second Layer of Run's Dungeon.

This layer was home to wolf-type monsters such as lesser wolves.

“[Ice, pierce through! Icicle Lance 4]”

Amon used an ice spear to pin down the hind legs of two lesser wolves, preventing them from jumping.

“Ha!”

Amon launched an attack against one of them.

The lesser wolf countered using its front legs and jaws.

Amon repeated his attacks and backstepped, accumulating damage on the lesser wolf while ensuring he didn't get hurt.

(This is very effective against an opponent whose legs are immobilized. I'm curious how he would fight against an opponent that isn't immobilized...)

After several attacks, Amon incapacitated both of the lesser wolves’ forelegs and then thrust at the throat.

He defeated the other lesser wolf in the same manner, which had its hind legs pinned down by the ice spear.

“Impressive work.”

“Thank you.”

Amon answered, his face flushed.

Though not as much as yesterday, he seemed excited right after defeating them.

Ryo collected the magic stones from the one Amon defeated first.

Since entering the Second Layer, they had now encountered their sixth lesser wolf.

The first four were defeated in the same way as the ants yesterday, with Ryo using ice spears to pin all their legs to the ground, allowing Amon to deliver the finishing blow.

The two they just fought had their hind legs pinned down by ice spears, and Amon handled the fighting against them.

“Amon, how do you feel? Next, let's try fighting just one... Since a no-damage opponent can be troublesome, how about facing a wolf that has taken damage to one of its front legs?”

Rather than exploring the dungeon, it had completely turned into Amon's combat training.

“Yes, please!”

“That's a good response.”

Anyone would like a young person full of motivation and sincerity.

Ryo was no exception.

However, Ryo, looking like he was in his late teens, was still a 'young person' himself...

“But, Ryo-san, is this alright?”

“Hm?”

“I’m really grateful that I can do both dungeon exploration and combat training, but I was wondering if you might find it unsatisfactory...”

As Amon washed the magic stone he retrieved from the lesser wolf with water, he asked.

Water is typically a precious resource in dungeons, but since there is a water attribute magician, they can use it without limit.

“You don’t need to worry about that. It’s only natural to help a roommate become stronger. Speaking of which, your swordsmanship, Amon, or more like your movements, remind me of Abel's swordsmanship. You learned that from a former adventurer in the village, right?”

“From Mr. Abel...! Oh, yes. I was taught by an old man named Kiro... Even though he’s called old man, he has a robust physique and works hard in the fields. He learned swordsmanship at a large dojo in the royal capital, and it seems to be from a renowned school... I think it was called Hume school.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t remember much,” Amon said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“I see. If you have a solid foundation, I believe you can become very strong. Abel was like that too. Now, shall we move on?”

With that, the two began walking side by side.

Just like yesterday, they walked in parallel.

“Ryo-san, I think you're a magician, but are you also knowledgeable about swords?”

“I used to get trained by my master a long time ago, but I wouldn’t say I’m knowledgeable about swords since I learned it my own way.”

With that, Ryo gazed into the distance.

The figure of the dullahan, the Fairy King, surfaced in his mind after a long time.

“That's amazing! Being a magician and also knowing swordsmanship... Oh? But you usually don’t carry a sword, right?”

(A memory of a similar exchange popped up recently...)

“This is my sword.”

Saying that, Ryo took Murakumo from his belt, causing an ice blade to materialize.

“Wha, wha, what is that...”

Amon's eyes were wide open in amazement.

However, it was a sword that produced an ice blade, or rather, since it was curved like a single-edged sword, it was closer to a katana. Anyone would react like Amon seeing something like that for the first time.
