Chapter 5: Final Day of the Dungeon Beginner's Workshop
On the fifth and final day of the dungeon beginner's workshop.
In the morning, a question and answer session was held in the lecture room, and in the afternoon, all participants were to venture into the first layer of the dungeon.
By the end of the fourth day, the basic information necessary for entering the dungeon had been provided.
This included the structure of the dungeon, traps to watch out for, enemies to be cautious of, and tools needed for exploration.
By the way, during the practical training in the afternoon of this fifth day, the minimum essential tools for exploration, such as potions and antidotes, would be provided by the Guild.
This is incredibly helpful for dungeon beginners.
Dungeon beginners are generally inexperienced adventurers.
Adventurers coming from other countries or cities aside, those who registered as adventurers in the City of Run primarily hone their skills in the upper layers of the dungeon.
They increase their adventurer level by supplying magic stones and materials obtained from the dungeon to the Guild while also accepting surface requests.
Thus, balancing both dungeon and surface requests is the mainstream way of adventurer activity in the City of Run.
For example, Nils and Eto, who share a room with Ryo, follow a schedule where they explore the dungeon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and handle surface requests on Tuesdays and Thursdays, taking weekends off.
Inevitably, they gain practical experience within the dungeon.
Due to this repetitive experience from an early stage, it is said that adventurers from the City of Run have better combat skills compared to adventurers from other cities.
Once they reach a certain adventurer level and gain access to more lucrative surface requests, they tend not to delve into the dungeon as often.
Since they can receive good rewards from surface requests without needing to venture deep into the dungeon, there’s no need to take unnecessary risks.
As a result, the deeper parts of the dungeon remain unexplored.
The deepest recorded area reached is the 38th layer.
Considering that even b-rank parties start to struggle beyond the 30th layer, it’s understandable that exploration does not progress further.
"Finally, we’re heading into the dungeon this afternoon. I'm starting to get nervous," Amon whispered to Ryo.
"It's still morning, Amon. If you're nervous now, you'll be exhausted by the afternoon," Ryo replied with a wry smile.
"I know, but…"
While they were conversing in low voices, the Q&A continued.
Participants were asking questions about things they were curious about that hadn’t been covered in the lectures, with the instructor, a former adventurer now working for the Guild, answering them.
However, no one asked the information that Ryo wanted to know.
(Hmm… Should I just ask myself? It’s embarrassing, but… asking is a moment’s shame, not asking is a lifetime’s shame.)
"Does anyone else have a question?"
Ryo raised his hand.
"Yeah, Ryo, what do you have?"
"Yes, it might not be relevant to the dungeon in the City of Run, but is there a sort of transfer function for layers that have been cleared once?"
When he asked that question, everyone except the instructor looked dumbfounded.
Amon beside Ryo was also surprised.
Yeah, that was an expected reaction.
"Oh, Ryo, you know your stuff! There are indeed dungeons like that. To supplement Ryo's question, if you’ve cleared up to the tenth layer, there are dungeons where you can continue your exploration from the tenth layer the next time you enter."
Upon hearing this, all the participants were equally astonished.
Naturally.
If such a function existed, one could return home every day, refresh, and then continue exploring from where they left off.
There wouldn’t be a more convenient feature for dungeon adventurers.
However...
"Unfortunately, that feature does not exist in the dungeon here in Run. They say it exists in the dungeons of the Western Nations, but… I’ve only heard about it, so I don’t know the details of how it works."
