When it happened, there were sixty knights at the Second Training Ground of the Royal Knight Order.
Thirty of them were in the outdoor training area.
The remaining thirty were in the indoor break room.
The entire building shook, and those thirty in the break room wondered what was happening... but not really.
This was because more than half of them were drunk.
Knights drowning in alcohol during the day... when the higher-ups rot, so do the subordinates.
This is a truth that doesn't change, regardless of the world, era, or organization.
Only about ten of those in the break room stepped outside.
What they saw was a horde of skeletons, heads of the House Reis, goblins, hobgoblins, ogres, and an ogre spilling out from the storage room at the end of the hallway.
No knight was able to react to the desperately approaching scene.
They were swallowed whole without doing anything, not even drawing their swords.
Let alone the twenty who were drunk.
The non-human beings that rushed into the break room quickly devoured those twenty as well.
The storage room at the end of the hallway... when this building was a monastery, it was a room connected to the Central Sanctuary underground.
Of course, the knights didn't know anything about that.
Whether they knew or not made no difference.
The non-human beings that spilled out of the building headed towards the thirty knights who were training outdoors.
It was as if the living were the target... the behavior of the undead.
Those other than the skeletons and heads of the House Reis acted similarly.
The thirty knights outside put up some resistance.
Of course, it was only to a degree compared to those indoors, and they were all swallowed within two minutes.
Hundreds, thousands of non-human beings headed further north.
To the First Training Ground of the Royal Knight Order.
Here, thirty knights were conducting basic training, but they were overtaken without any resistance.
Considering it was a sudden attack, their lack of resistance was unthinkable for the kingdom's elite.
The non-human beings that engulfed the First Training Ground continued northward.
Finally, they approached the knight order's barracks.
The knight order barracks.
This is the most crucial base of the Royal Knight Order, alongside the knight headquarters inside the Royal Castle, and it is also where many executives are located.
For this reason, guards are stationed at various entrances.
Naturally, the guards at the entrance were not drunk.
Since they dealt not only with the knights but also with outsiders, they couldn't afford to be foolish.
Moreover, considering that members of the royal family or important figures of the country might visit, the most responsible people among the current knights might be these entrance guards.
They reacted quickly.
Upon confirming that non-human beings were approaching, they rang the bell as per regulations.
This bell is to notify of an emergency situation.
At the very least, this ensured that the knights in the barracks would not be caught off guard... if they were sensible.
Unfortunately, the relaxed knights did not feel any tension, even after hearing the sound of the bell.
Moreover, the momentum of the non-human beings was overwhelming, allowing them to swallow the guards and the bell itself with hardly any resistance.
As a result, the sound of the bell stopped.
Upon hearing the bell stop so abruptly, the relaxed knights thought, "Ah, it must have been a mistake."
They continued with their prior tasks.
Of course, the entrance where the guards stood had a closed gate, but it was easily broken through by the ogre that was mixed in.
This was not a frontier; it was the royal capital.
It is not an exaggeration to say it is the place least likely to be attacked by monsters in the kingdom.
Even the gate to the knight order barracks is something that would be difficult for humans to break through.
For an ogre, that kind of gate was as good as non-existent.
The knights in the barracks realized something was wrong only after the non-human beings had infiltrated the building itself.
