Abel and Hero Roman fought on the front lines, while Gordon, the fire attribute mage, was in shock at the absence of Rin, Alicia, Bellrock, Graham, and Nancy, and was launching bombardments.
Meanwhile, the priests, who had been fighting without rest until now, were taking a break to focus on their recovery.
Although there were only five bombardiers, they included Rin, the wind attribute mage who was a b-rank adventurer, and the mages from the Hero Party.
Compared to the priests, who were not particularly suited for attacking, this was sufficient firepower.
Furthermore, fighting on the front lines were two extraordinary individuals, the genius swordsman Abel and Hero Roman.
Their battle was intense.
“Impressive…”
Whoever uttered those words seemed to embody the feelings of all the resting priests.
The mere presence of the hero was something the priests, including High Priest Gabriel, could not comprehend.
In the end, they abandoned their thoughts and accepted it as the will of God, just as Rhea was there.
In times like this, those who serve God may have an advantage.
They could place all the responsibility on God.
“It’s like a great tsunami.”
“Indeed. Truly.”
Even while bombarding, Rin was able to call out to Rhea, as the two on the front lines were among the top endurance holders of humanity.
Finally, Rhea, who had been commanding with tension since the retreat from the Fourth Underground Floor, was able to take a breather.
“A great tsunami refers to the phenomenon where monsters endlessly spawn from a dungeon, right?”
Alicia, who overheard their conversation, joined in.
“Yes. It happened about six months ago, I think? In the dungeon of the City of Run, where we have our base, it was the first time in ten years. But this isn’t a dungeon, is it?”
“Right. It’s just an underground tomb. Up to the Fifth Underground Floor, it only contains the remains of past high priests, saints, and holy maidens.”
Rin answered, and Rhea explained that it was merely an underground tomb.
There were mummies, but it was fundamentally different from a dungeon.
“So, that means it’s connected to somewhere else…”
Alicia nodded as she spoke.
“Is something like that even possible?”
Rin was surprised by Alicia's words and asked.
“I’ve never heard of such items or anything humans could do, but… there was someone who appeared before us before. How should I put it… it felt like they were tearing through space. They weren’t human, but we could communicate. We created an altar to summon and defeat the demon king, but instead, that being appeared. If such a thing is possible, then it might also be possible to connect this underground to another place.”
Alicia thought of Demon Leonor.
Though Rin and Rhea didn’t completely understand, they grasped that there was a terrifying existence.
At that moment, completely out of context, Rhea remembered something and turned to High Priest Gabriel, who was resting behind them.
“High Priest, why hasn’t the knight order arrived?”
That’s right, when this situation arose, the first contact made by the Central Sanctuary was with the Royal Knight Order.
Yet, no one had come still.
The Royal Knight Order's outpost was only three blocks away from here.
Even if they ran in armor, they should be able to arrive within thirty minutes.
“I also found it strange and checked earlier, but it seems they officially refused to mobilize.”
“Huh?”
High Priest Gabriel answered with a frown, and Rhea responded in a bewildered tone.
“What on earth is the knight order thinking…?”
“They said it is a knight’s role to protect the king. Ever since that knight commander took over, the organization has become utterly hopeless.”
Rhea was exasperated, and High Priest Gabriel was even more astonished.
Two hours had passed since Abel and the others arrived.
They continued to exchange with the somewhat recovered priests, and the counterattack at the center of the first underground floor was ongoing.
With the forces now organized, there was no longer a need for a retreat.
