Chapter 42: 42. Q&A ✉️

“So, Orun, you’ll tell me the answer to my question from this morning here, right?”

Wilkes, having finished his exchange with Lucre, called out to me.

It should be fine to talk here.

“Ah, of course. Defeating the black dragon was largely thanks to two original magics. Since they’re original magics, I’ll skip the details, but the first one is called [Instantaneous Ability Surge (Impact)]. Its effect lasts less than a second—just a brief moment—but during that time, it can boost the power and effectiveness of my equipment and magic up to 100 times.”

“Eh? One hundred times!? Amazing... Hey, Selma, can you do that?”

Ms. Rain asked Ms. Selma with admiration.

Despite Rain’s appearance, her way of speaking feels like an older woman. It’s a surprising contrast.

“...No, I can’t. I have no idea how one would do that,” Ms. Selma said quietly, looking surprised.

That bug—I mean, glitch—was discovered completely by chance.

No matter how much you search normally, you wouldn’t find it.

So I doubt anyone would consider using that glitch as a cheat.

“Next, the second one is a magic that can boost physical abilities more than ordinary support magic. Since it can be increased gradually, I haven’t given it a special name.”

Strictly speaking, it’s not magic, but from an outsider’s perspective, it looks like a significant enhancement, so I consider it magic.

This one also exploits a glitch, so I can’t go into details.

“How much more than ordinary support magic?”

Lucre asked.

“When fighting the black dragon, I was raising my abilities about thirty-two times.”

“What? That’s so unfair! No wonder the hero party made it to the 94th floor! But then, why were you still called lacking in ability?”

Lucre was the only one who raised her voice, but the other three seemed to be thinking the same without saying it aloud.

Well, it is cheating, after all...

“It’s certainly a powerful effect, but it has drawbacks. First, I can only activate it on myself. I can’t boost the abilities of my teammates. So even when I was in the hero party, the members only received my normal support magic. My support magic increases abilities by about twice, so I think it’s understandable they said I wasn’t strong enough. Also, this technique construction requires an enormous amount of effort to raise abilities, so it’s not suited for long battles. When exploring deep floors, I can’t always fight in this boosted state. I probably won’t use buffs like in the black dragon fight again—unless absolutely necessary—because it really gives me a headache...”

Using the [All Ability Boost (Status Up)] with [Quintuple Stacking] in the black dragon battle was meant to bring the fight to a quick conclusion.

Though the battle ended up lasting longer than expected, dungeon exploration means spending hours inside the dungeon.

Not every moment is combat, but the total battle time is definitely longer than in the black dragon fight.

In future dungeon explorations, I might use one or two types of stacking, but I doubt I’ll ever use six types at once.

“I see. Now I understand why the hero party made it to the 94th floor. Even without that ability boost, that [Instantaneous Ability Surge (Impact)] magic alone is a huge advantage. Now I get why Selma’s sister praised Orun so highly.”

“Yeah, I didn’t realize it was such a precise magic, nor did I think it could give a hundredfold benefit. It really is an incredible magic.”

“The [Instantaneous Ability Surge (Impact)] can only reach up to a hundred times at maximum; I don’t make it a hundred times every time. The technique construction for a hundredfold boost puts a heavy strain on the brain.”

“Any other questions? I’ll try to answer as much as possible.”

“Well then, can I ask a question?”

When I asked if there were any more questions, Ms. Rain spoke up.

“Of course.”

“Orun-kun, you were an enchanter in the hero party, right? Besides enchanter and frontline attacker, are there other positions you can do?”
