Jack of All Trades, Party of None

Chapter 187: Unfulfilled Promise đź’”

Published: January 22, 2026

The morning after Princess Lucilla came to Tsutolairu and entrusted us with a request, the members of our first squad gathered at the dormitory entrance to see Ms. Selma off as she was to accompany Princess Lucilla.

“Thank you all for coming to see me off. I’ll be away from the clan for a while, so I’m counting on you all from now on,” Ms. Selma said as she expressed her gratitude.

Rain was the first to speak.

“That’s only natural. Selma, make sure you support the princess well!”

“Of course,” Selma replied.

“To think the princess herself would personally ask Selma to accompany her... To me, Selma is a reliable leader, so the princess must want to rely on her! I’m proud to have Selma as my comrade. It’s going to be tough, but do your best!” Lucre said cheerfully.

“That’s quite flattering, but thank you, Lucre,” Selma said, a bit shy.

“Orun, you’re leaving here already?” Will asked me mid-conversation.

“Yes. I’m meeting Fuuka and Mr. Haruto at the Seeker’s Guild. While there, I’ll get dungeon conquest permits from the Guild Master and then leave Tsutolairu,” I explained.

“I see. Orun-kun, dungeon conquest is tough, but do your best,” Rain encouraged.

“Thanks, Ms. Rain. You all have your hands full too; don’t overdo it,” I said.

From now on, we would be moving separately.

Those remaining in the town, like Rain and others, would each be busy in their own ways.

It might be a while before we all gathered again, but if everyone focused wholeheartedly on what lay ahead, I believed we’d reunite again not too far in the future.

“This is going to be tough for all of us, but let’s face the Great Labyrinth’s conquest as the silver rabbits of the night sky, as the first squad, with smiles on our faces. When we next gather, it will be when we step onto the 94th floor. And let us become the next hero party!” Ms. Selma said firmly, thrusting her fist forward.

“That’s right. For that, I’ll study magic hard while also defending the town! So no one else gets hurt, no one else dies!” Lucre echoed, punching her fist against Selma’s.

“Hero party, huh. I’m not that interested, but since I inherited the dream of conquering the Great Labyrinth from Albert, I don’t intend to quit until I accomplish it. And if I’m going to do it, there’s no one else but this group!” Will added.

“Everyone, don’t just look up; remember to watch your feet carefully too. If we advance step by step steadily, that path will lead to conquering the 94th floor—and eventually to the Great Labyrinth conquest! So let’s walk that path together!” Rain said, joining in with a fist forward.

Then the four of them all smiled warmly at me.

“I’m going to conquer dungeons all over, but that’s just part of the process for me. My goal is to gain new things from Fuuka and Mr. Haruto and grow from that. As the ace of the silver rabbits of the night sky, I’ll come back stronger,” I said as I placed my fist among theirs.

Thank you very much for reading until the end.

Everyone, Happy New Year!

I look forward to your continued support this year as well!

With this chapter, the fifth chapter concludes.

The volume ended up nearly twice what I initially expected, and it may have seemed a bit scattered, but I think I’ve covered most of the important points for now.

Chapter six will build momentum toward concluding the first part!

At present, I plan to end the first part with chapter eight, but I might close the story itself at that point as well.

I’ll consider those details gradually, but for now, I will focus on writing chapter six!

Also, thanks to being busier than usual, I apologize for the wait. The next chapter’s release is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd.

I hope to include character introductions during that interval.

Thank you again for your continued support of this work!
