The continuous updates during the year-end and New Year period quietly continued...
But by the third day, I had reached my limit _:(´ཀ`」 ∠):
Serious. Ultra serious. Really stubborn. Rock solid and unyielding. Yet, because he truly serves me from the heart and carries a strong sense of responsibility, he is strict both with himself and others.
Because I understand Espada as a person so well, I have entrusted him with all authority.
To explain those authorities in a little more detail: not only maintaining and defending the territory while I am away, but also selecting and approving potential new villagers. Furthermore, it extends to managing, buying, and selling materials from demonic beasts, which is the village’s greatest source of income.
If Espada ever decided to run off with money, he could probably escape tomorrow holding platinum coins tightly in his hand. That is the extent of discretion I have granted him.
Therefore, Espada can also independently select and entrust assistants or managers to help him. However, Espada always sought my approval for important decisions. It’s likely also out of respect for me as the head of the Baron Van Nei Fertio family.
But, perhaps Espada’s true intention lies elsewhere.
While pondering such thoughts, I glanced lightly around the room.
In the hall used as a guest room, five people sat evenly spaced in chairs. Behind them stood Espada and Row, looking down at the backs of their heads. Facing them, to my left stood Kamushin and Til, while to my right, Arte sat in a chair beside me, also watching the five.
The men and women seated were clearly nervous, staring at me. After confirming this, I spoke.
“...Well then, let’s begin the final interview! Please start from the right side, introduce yourselves, and tell me about tasks you are confident in handling!”
Feeling somewhat like a group interview, I tossed out those words. It must have been unexpected, but the man at the far right quickly stood and spoke.
“Y-yes...! I am Jiu Jialuo, a former slave! Before becoming a slave, I worked in architecture and design, but due to other trading companies cornering the market, work sharply decreased, and I fell into debt slavery. While trembling in a cage, uncertain of my future, I was fortunate to be purchased by the Bell Rango Trading Company and now have this life. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Lord Van...”
Thus began Jiu’s greeting and self-introduction. Seriously, ultra serious. It was clear why Espada selected these members for training.
Listening to the serious introductions from the men and women, the fourth was a noble’s daughter named Julietta Berlina, just as Espada had said.
A cute girl with short golden hair, always wearing a smile. But when she spoke, she seemed to gauge people’s reactions, using words of agreement and empathy to measure their feelings.
Truly, a talent who could become the empress of Kabukicho. Back when I was in Japan, I might have scrimped every month to support someone like her. Though I never actually did.
Finally, the last person.
A tall woman of about 25. She tied her purple-tinged hair back, and her strong gaze gave her the aura of a female warrior.
Beautiful but somewhat intimidating. That was the impression.
The woman looked at us, straightened her back, and spoke.
“My name is Emira Komi. I was born a knight, but after my father died in battle, our family fell. For the sake of my mother and younger brother, I sold myself. Luckily, I was able to come to Seato Village, and thanks to Lord Espada’s selection, I am now striving to work as an acting lord. From now on, I intend to fulfill my duties with utmost dedication to meet Lord Espada’s expectations and, ultimately, to serve Lord Van.”
With that, Emira gave a deep bow. Her introduction was simple but somehow conveyed her honest nature. I found myself somewhat intrigued by Emira and decided to ask her a question.
“Emira, you said you were born a knight. Do you have knowledge of swordsmanship or tactics?”
