Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord

Chapter 17: The Next Day, the Village Went into Panic 😱

Published: January 12, 2026

Second post for today.

The morning sun poured in, and I inhaled the cold air, opening my eyes slightly. As I shifted, the carriage creaked faintly.

Though the sun had risen, the sky was still painted with dawn’s colors. Deep blue and wisteria hues mixed with the orange light staining the earth dazzled my eyes.

“Ah, Lord Van. Good morning.”

Sitting up, I was greeted by Til, who had already gotten up and was cleaning the carriage.

“Good morning, Til.”

I responded and looked out the carriage window. Kamushin, sweeping the ground around the carriage, turned to face me.

“Good morning, Lord Van.”

“Good morning, Kamushin.”

As I returned their greetings, I looked around, thinking it might be pointless to keep sweeping the dirt ground. But then I realized I was mistaken.

The area around the carriage was neatly maintained, looking like a well-kept ground.

“Thank you both for the cleaning.”

When I acknowledged their efforts, they smiled shyly in return.

I got off the carriage and stretched. Although I had changed clothes, I hadn’t bathed yet, so I felt uncomfortable. Also, while the carriage was spacious, the bedding was just sleeping bags, leaving my body stiff.

Ah, I should have modified the carriage. I’d forgotten. Well, it’s fine for now. But I definitely don’t want to keep living in cramped spaces anymore.

In conclusion, before fortifying the village’s defenses, I need to get clothing, food, and shelter in order.

“I’m going to build a house.”

I muttered with determination. After so many days camping, moving in a carriage, and even after arriving at the village, I’d still been sleeping in the carriage.

Wait, I’m a noble, right?

Some days, I almost felt like an adventurer instead. Papa, just you wait.

With renewed motivation, I clapped my hands in front of my face.

“Kamushin! Bring the wooden blocks!”

“Huh? Ah, y-yes!”

Kamushin hurriedly came running with wooden blocks in both hands. He looked like a loyal dog, which was kind of heartwarming.

Til arrived shortly after, carrying wooden blocks too.

In no time, the wooden blocks piled up in front of me.

“Is something the matter? Um, what is this...?”

Before I knew it, Ronda stood beside me, staring dumbfounded at the wooden blocks. Surely, she didn’t expect the building material to be wood.

“I’m thinking of building our house in this spacious area... Ah, is it okay to build here? Is this place used as a plaza or something?”

I asked, and Ronda nodded.

“This is the village center. It’s the perfect place for Lord Van’s mansion. The village no longer uses it much as a plaza.”

Ronda spoke with a somewhat self-deprecating tone. Probably the village didn’t have enough resources to hold festivals anymore.

In that case, once things improve, I’ll work hard to hold the harvest festival and carnival.

Thinking that, I placed my hand on the wooden blocks. Could I really build something as big as a house? Well, I had made a door before, so maybe I could manage.

I focused my mana and started by creating the pillars. It would suffice if Til, Kamushin, Espada, and I could live there. Dee and the other two could have separate houses.

For the pillars, I first prepared the four corners to decide the size. Recalling the room where I slept, I set the spacing between pillars and pushed them into the ground.

Here came a pleasant surprise. When making the pillars, I imagined them as extremely thin wires and pushed them deep into the earth. Then, by thickening them, I managed to create sturdy pillars firmly anchored in the ground.

They didn’t budge even when pushed or pulled — splendid pillars indeed. Next, I would connect the floor and walls, and finally, build the roof.

The wooden blocks stretched and wriggled unnervingly, but watching them form sped up the process. Though I had a design in my head, it felt even bigger as it took shape.

Once the exterior walls and roof were done, I built interior partition walls.

All the wooden blocks were used up, but the house shape was complete. There was a communal dining hall, a toilet, one large bedroom, one medium bedroom, and two small individual rooms. I had to differentiate them somewhat else Espada would get mad.
