Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord

Chapter 159: Suspicious Person? 🕵️‍♂️

Published: January 13, 2026

Day Five. No matter how far we advanced, all we saw were mountains, cliffs, and rivers in the march through the Wolfsburg Mountain Range—until a change occurred.

The expanse of the sky clearly grew larger. In other words, the tall mountains were thinning out, and the sky appeared more open.

The higher you go toward the center of the Wolfsburg Mountain Range, the taller the mountains become. It is said that powerful demonic beasts inhabit these harsh environments corresponding to the mountains’ height and severity. Passing straight through such a vast mountainous area is considered impossible, but sneaking along the edges is surprisingly manageable.

Because of these circumstances, once we can truly feel the mountains lowering, it’s a clear sign that we’re close to passing through the Wolfsburg Mountain Range.

“If we push through, do you think we can reach our destination by tomorrow?”

That night, as I muttered this within the newly established base, Kamushin nodded deeply.

“Yes. I believe we could arrive tomorrow or the day after. It’s all thanks to Lord Van.”

“Ahaha. I just worked hard. Well, I only started making the path because my rear end was in agony and had reached its limit.”

As we exchanged these words with a wry smile, Til peeked her head out from the girls’ room we had prepared next door.

“Ah, Lord Van, you’re still up? You’re tired; you should go to bed early.”

Til appeared wearing the nightgown I had made. It was a long one-piece type, and I had put incredible effort into making it feel silky smooth to wear. I have to say, it turned out well.

Then, Arte, wearing the same nightgown, also appeared behind Til. So cute.

“That’s right. You two need to sleep soon, okay? Oh, if you need anything for bedding, just say so.”

When I said that, Arte narrowed her eyes slightly.

“Yes. Thank you.”

“No worries! There’s even a bed, and it’s so comfortable it’s almost too much!”

Til smiled as she said that. However, since the bed was makeshift, it wasn’t very comfortable. The futon and pillows were processed from demonic beast hides and felt quite good, but overall, it was a bit lacking.

“Sorry, both of you. Once we return to Seato Village, there will be proper beds. Just a little more patience.”

I tried to reassure them, but they exchanged glances and smiled wryly.

“This bed is already quite splendid.”

“Rather, the beds in Seato Village are just too good. I’m sure His Majesty would be surprised by this base.”

“Eh? Really?”

Their reaction made me tilt my head. The materials couldn’t be refined, so it felt like a cheap sofa bed, but surprisingly, they said it wasn’t a problem.

I had been desperately trying to improve food, clothing, and shelter recently, but perhaps we had already reached a fairly high standard without realizing it.

“Come to think of it, we started with straw beds. How nostalgic.”

I muttered as I recalled, and Kamushin nodded.

“That’s right. At first, the village was so dilapidated it shocked me. But Lord Van rapidly transformed it into an amazing place… It’s probably better than the capital city now.”

For some reason, Kamushin said this with a proud face.

“Hahaha. You’ll be punished for disrespect, Kamushin.”

Though it was a different base and His Majesty and other nobles were nearby, he unexpectedly spoke as if looking down on the capital city. I admired his guts. But he soon turned pale, so it probably wasn’t true courage.

After such lighthearted exchanges, we each went to our respective bedrooms to sleep.

We worked hard on construction today, too. Van-kun’s doing great. Thinking that, I closed my eyes.

Suddenly, I realized something was shaking my body and opened my eyes.

“Hmm… What?”

I responded drowsily, turning my face to the side.

In front of me was Kamushin, looking serious. Startled, I jerked my upper body up and quickly shifted to put some distance between us.

“Eh!? Kamushin, you’re here? Well, if that’s the case, I support you, but I’m not really interested in that side…”
