Glancing at Daddy silently glaring at the Dwarf’s forge, I spoke to Brother Murcia.
“Brother Murcia, since you came here this time, does that mean the Marquis Fertio family knight order will be split into two?”
When I asked, Murcia looked at me with a troubled smile.
“Ah, actually…”
Just as Murcia was about to say something, a rider from the order galloped in from the castle walls.
“Lord Van! His Majesty the King has arrived! It seems he came ahead with the Royal Guard!”
“So fast!?”
Even though the capital city is more than twice as far as the marquisate’s first city, how could he arrive so quickly?
“Ah, so he must have sent letters to the nobles and immediately left the capital city… Hurry, let’s go to greet His Majesty! Dee, Espada, come with me! Father, Brother Murcia, you stay here…”
“That’s not going to happen, you fool. If His Majesty has arrived, we will definitely go to meet him as well.”
“Oh, of course. Then, let’s put aside the tour of Seato Village for now and go welcome His Majesty.”
I gave the order on a whim and was immediately scolded by Father. However, since the scolding was perfectly reasonable, I agreed right away and everyone headed toward the castle gate together.
When we reached the castle gate, the knights waiting for my order looked toward us.
“All right! Open the gates!”
Normally, either I, Dee, or Espada would personally confirm the visitor, but since half the knights had seen His Majesty’s face before, it should be fine. While thinking this, the gates opened and a four-horse carriage appeared from within. Knights on horseback surrounded it.
Actually, all the knights entering from the rear were mounted, but how hurriedly must they have come?
“Oh, Baron Van! Long time no see!”
As the carriage door opened, His Majesty stepped out with a loud greeting. The people around were so surprised by his casualness that they forgot to kneel. His Majesty didn’t mind at all and walked toward us.
“You’ve built quite an interesting place again! That great bathhouse was amazing! And the town’s facilities have improved a lot too! I imagine Seato Village must have changed somewhere as well?”
His Majesty, walking toward us with a cheerful smile, noticed those lined up behind me and spoke.
“Oh, Marquis! Your knight order is outside, but you yourself are missing, so I had to look for you. Have you finished touring the village?”
When His Majesty asked, Father nodded deeply.
“Yes, mostly… only the place called the lake remains.”
Hearing this, His Majesty responded loudly.
“Oh, that’s right! Since we’ve come here, we must greet them as well! Marquis, this is perfect timing. If you haven’t seen it yet, let’s go together.”
“Of course. We will accompany you.”
Pressed by His Majesty’s enthusiasm, Father agreed to the proposal. For some reason, their conversation reminded me of a company boss and subordinate out drinking together—but perhaps noble society is somewhat similar.
With such preconceived notions, Father’s back, as he followed His Majesty, looked somewhat tired. Or maybe it was just my imagination.
“Baron Van! Open the castle gate.”
Before I realized it, we had reached the far end of Seato Village. I quickly nodded at His Majesty’s words and ordered the knights on the walls to open the gate. After the knights responded, a heavy sound echoed, and the castle gate, which could be called the back entrance of Seato Village, was opened.
Then, Father, who had been calm until then, suddenly widened his eyes and exclaimed in surprise.
“Apcaluru…!?”
At his voice, Brother Murcia stepped forward and looked beyond the gate. The lake, which also served as a reservoir, was quite large, surrounded by boathouses, with several boats floating on the surface. Around the lake were chairs and tables arranged for relaxing, where villagers and Apcaluru appeared to be chatting and dining together.
