Doomsday Summoning Frenzy

Chapter 51: Devourer 🐉

Published: January 31, 2025

In Sun Ruixing's small gathering place, Wen Yu found a mat and laid it on the ground, quietly basking in the sun.

Ignoring the astonished gazes of passing patrol members, Wen Yu occasionally teased the little soul beast. It had been nearly two hours since Sun Ruixing and the others left. During this time, Wen Yu had eaten a little food and had been sitting there feeling bored.

Although he lamented that this was a waste of time, Wen Yu valued his promise even more. Hearing the commotion in the distance, Wen Yu slowly opened his eyes, releasing the little soul beast he had been squeezing in his hand, and picked up his steel knife.

The little soul beast, having just escaped its owner's clutches, angrily floated to Wen Yu's shoulder and bumped its owner’s cheek forcefully to express its frustration.

Even though the soul beast was already at the second level, its strength was not even comparable to a lover's gentle touch. However, from the mental waves the little soul beast transmitted back, it also felt that Wen Yu's "massage" was quite comfortable. It was just that, being a noble soul beast, it felt a bit humiliated being treated like a ball by Wen Yu.

This was what they called being tsundere.

Ignoring the emotions transmitted back from the soul beast, Wen Yu looked towards the entrance, where Lin Hu was leading a group of strangers inside, causing him to furrow his brows.

"Really, what a hassle. I knew I shouldn't get involved with these outposts."

...

Mayor Li, full of vigor, led a large group of people into Sun Ruixing's stronghold, the entire process appearing incredibly effortless.

Lin Hu had already been bought off by him; he was one of his people. Many of the patrolling professionals were also on Lin Hu's side.

Even if some of these individuals were very loyal to Sun Ruixing, it had only been a few days since the apocalypse began—loyalty was not worth as much as their lives. Seeing such a large group of professionals holding steel knives, even a fool would know how to choose. Besides, weren’t they all just mixing with whoever suited them?

Some who saw the situation clearly wisely chose to keep quiet. Those who didn't understand the situation followed Lin Hu, the apparent leader of the outpost, and headed directly toward the mansion.

Mayor Li straightened his collar and stepped onto a large rock at the entrance of the mansion. Ironically, it was upon this very rock that Sun Ruixing had delivered speeches after catching zombies.

For today, Mayor Li had even dressed formally.

He watched as Lin Hu gathered most of the people in the gathering place below him, including the patrol members, while the entire camp's patrol duties had already been taken over by his own subordinates.

"Ahem." Mayor Li cleared his throat twice. The powerful physical attributes of the professionals made his cough sound quite shocking. Seeing the confused crowd below turn their attention to him, Mayor Li nodded in satisfaction and began his prepared speech.

"Fellow citizens, I believe you all know who I am. If you don’t know me, that’s fine; let me introduce myself simply. My name is Li Quan'an, and I am the mayor of Birch Forest Town."

"I am here today to inform you that our country, our government, has already initiated rescue operations, and I am the government-appointed person responsible for organizing rescue work in Birch Forest Town."

"I, Li Quan'an, started rescue operations as soon as the disaster began. Our camp is located in the town center; however, this little man, Sun Ruixing, for his own selfish desires, deceives the public and attempts to claim power during this disaster. This is an act of betrayal against the country, and such actions will surely face national sanctions. Fortunately, Brother Lin Hu still remembers the greater good of the country and took the initiative to contact me, letting me know that there are still so many suffering people here."

Calmly betraying Lin Hu, Li Quan'an ignored Lin Hu's pale face and continued with his speech.
