“Why are you here?” Marquez paused for a moment and then casually asked.
“Just came to see you, what about you?”
“Me?”
“Yeah, why are you also here?”
“I just came to take a nap, the barracks are too noisy...”
“What about them?”
“Who?”
“The ones underground...”
“...”
Faced with this question, Marquez was speechless. He simply shook his head lightly and walked straight past Lei.
He didn’t want to answer Lei’s question.
However, a large hand grabbed Marquez.
“You need to give me an explanation!”
Lei spoke to Marquez word by word, but what responded to him was Marquez’s determination!
“Slap.”
The hand that was holding Marquez's sleeve was shaken off, and Marquez glared at Lei, letting out a furious roar.
“Explanation? What explanation? I saved some of our kin, is that a crime?”
After saying this, Marquez took a deep breath. He moved closer to Lei, almost touching his cheek, and spoke slowly.
“Say whatever you want to say, but let me remind you of one thing: you are not human, and neither am I. We are the same kind as those down there...”
“Lei, do you think you can completely abandon your past by changing your skin and wash away your identity? I’m telling you clearly, that’s a dream!”
“You! You are the one living in a dream, but I am not!”
After saying this, Marquez left without looking back, leaving Lei to watch Marquez walk further away, then glanced at the demonic life forces gathered underground like torches. After a moment, Lei sighed.
He didn’t know what to do...
But one thing was clear — the secret here, this little secret that belonged solely to Marquez, could not be kept hidden for long...
...
Marquez’s military salary could indeed afford the living expenses of three thousand ancient demons. He didn’t need to find extra income to support his small hobby.
But the problem lay in the location.
Although this place was deserted, it was once a construction site set up by Beijing, and although it had been abandoned, there was no guarantee that someone would not come here someday.
And that was just one issue.
The second issue was that Marquez had not set up any barriers to isolate the sensing aura here!
That was the real problem!
Three thousand ancient demons gathering together emitted such noticeable fluctuations of aura and blood energy that it was hard to miss. The stronger the individual, the higher their ability to sense these auras and blood energies. Just like Lei, as soon as he teleported to this continent, he noticed the gathering place of these ancient demons with just a glance.
And in Beijing, there were at least over a thousand strong individuals of Lei’s caliber!
How could this be hidden?
It couldn’t be hidden. It wouldn’t be long before these ancient demons would be discovered by the patrolling strong individuals from Beijing and then slaughtered — it might even involve Marquez behind them.
Lei thought for a moment and understood Marquez’s idea.
This was a form of self-destruction...
Marquez probably hoped that this place would be discovered by others...
Lei stood for a long time at the entrance of the construction site, weighing all the pros and cons, and soon made a decision.
...
Lei did not return to the outpost base in Zone Three, but instead traveled directly to Beijing via the teleportation array.
Using his identity, he easily entered the military department and told the guards his purpose for visiting.
“I want to see the commander-in-chief.”
After the guards notified and let him through, Lei made his way up and soon stood before the door of the commander's office.
“Knock, knock, knock...”
Accompanied by the sound of knocking on the door, after a moment, Wen Yu’s voice came from inside the office.
“Come in.”
“Creak...”
Wen Yu’s figure appeared before Lei.
“Corps commander of the 142nd Army, Lei, I remember you.”
This impression was likely from over a decade ago.
After saying this, Wen Yu placed the documents in his hand on the table and spoke again.
