Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 68: We Are Cannon Fodder 💥

"Thank you, Dream Trace, for the reward! Today's headline is yours, heh heh. But to be honest, you've already rewarded Old Huan a lot; that's enough. Once again, thank you, Dream Trace!"

"Mo team, what kind of gun is that? How could it injure this monster?!"

Cheng Ze's mouth was agape, staring incredulously at the corpse ape outside the window, which was the first to be hurt and bleed.

The others looked at the corpse ape, then at Mo Ye, and finally all their gazes landed on that old-fashioned rifle.

Previously, Mo Ye had already given these people a huge shock. The concepts of evolvers and virus immunity, which seemed like something out of a fairy tale to them, were happening to someone who was just like them yesterday.

But this was the truth; the big hole in the wall proved everything, and now, another strange gun served as proof.

Excluding the carefree Little Tiger and Cheng Long, both Cheng Ze and Xia Lei realized that on this day since the apocalypse began, their junior sister and apprentice had undergone some changes they were unaware of.

Cheng Ze, having seen much in life due to his age, was the most thorough in considering matters; he just thought a little and guessed at something.

"Did you tell the captain you wanted to leave because of this?"

After returning to the headquarters, Mo Ye had expressed her desire to leave to the captain. Many people didn’t understand at the time. After all, if everyone stayed together, being very familiar with each other, having weapons and food, as long as nobody acted foolishly, they shouldn’t be too afraid of zombies; a team was far safer than being alone.

Even Xia Lei, who was highly skilled and had her husband waiting for her elsewhere, didn’t act rashly, instead waiting for the best opportunity. Mo Ye, at most, was about as strong as Xia Lei; going out alone would be like courting death.

Undeniably, when they learned this news, both Cheng Ze and Xia Lei disagreed.

But now, they understood that this young armed police captain had a potentially better path, a path that could allow her to become immune to the virus and become an evolver within a single day.

And there was this gun...

They initially thought it was just a broken gun she picked up somewhere, yet who would have thought its power exceeded that of the sniper rifle in the headquarters.

Mo Ye bit her lip, searching for another opportunity to shoot, uncertain how to explain the confusion of her colleagues around her.

In truth, she only realized what she had truly obtained from Ye Zhongming after returning here.

Evolution Potions, immunity potions, the rifle, bullets; these things she initially thought were nothing, and even believed they were rewards she deserved for her efforts. However, she discovered upon returning that what she had offered didn’t warrant such a high reward.

Indeed, it was expensive. After returning, Mo Ye inadvertently overheard a conversation between the captain and Ye Zhongming through an internal phone line that hadn’t been cut off. She learned how many good things could be exchanged for a bottle of Evolution Potion! From that moment, she realized she had taken too much.

Now, even though her hand had been scratched by a zombie, she was unharmed; she could stop this monster from approaching, giving everyone time to survive. She felt that she didn’t just take a lot but rather took far too much.

The more this was the case, the more gratitude Mo Ye felt toward Ye Zhongming, and the more she resolved to leave once she completed this mission.

Her heart told her that being with that person was what she truly hoped for.

"The world has changed; some things are so miraculous that they exceed our imaginations." Mo Ye stared at the corpse ape that was kicking all the cars around like crazy and whispered, "If I get the chance, I’ll explain it to you all in detail."

Before her voice faded, she again pulled the trigger; this time, her target was not the corpse ape's wary eyes but its knee.

Mo Ye used a bullet that Ye Zhongming had given her before he left.
