Chapter 66: The Counterattack of the Purple Cloud Battle Ant 🐜

“Beautiful lady, it's not that we don’t want to let you go, but ahead is particularly dangerous. It’s safer if you stay with us,” Hu Duohai looked at the slender and charming woman in front of him, a hint of interest well-concealed in his eyes.

His interest wasn’t in the woman’s appearance or body, but rather in the aura of an evolver around her and the strange whip in her hand.

Compared to many fortunate individuals who became evolvers on the first day of the apocalypse, Hu Duohai's path to evolution was much more arduous. At the beginning of the apocalypse, Hu Duohai was merely a stubborn resident defending two small tile-roofed houses, competing with various demolition forces in a battle of patience. To avoid being forcibly evicted, he had brought his elderly parents, both over eighty, and several relatives who were older or even bedridden into those two small houses.

After the apocalypse began, these elderly people couldn’t withstand the tide of mutations and became flesh-eating zombies.

In a panic, the strong and able-bodied Hu Duohai ran out but quickly returned because the monsters outside were even more numerous, overwhelming him.

To survive, he mustered his courage and killed those mutated relatives. The elderly zombies, who could only crawl, posed limited threats; as long as he wasn't scared senseless, killing them was not difficult.

Dragging their bodies to bury them at a nearby construction site, Hu Duohai unexpectedly discovered a roulette there. This novel object stood tall, emanating a tempting glow.

Hu Duohai wasn’t foolish; he quickly figured out how to use it. He spun the roulette with the magic crystal from his deceased relative's forehead and received a card whose purpose he didn’t even know.

Later, when he was out looking for food, he encountered Captain Ye, who was leading a group to clean up zombies. With that card and the position of the roulette, he exchanged it for food, water, and a bottle of Evolution Potion.

Furthermore, for some unknown reason, Captain Ye assigned some survivors under Hu Duohai's management.

This made the forty-year-old man, who had dreamed of getting rich overnight during peaceful times, feel for the first time the sensation of being a leader.

However, Hu Duohai was self-aware; he knew that Captain Ye wouldn’t make him an evolver for no reason, especially since many of Ye's subordinates hadn't received Evolution Potions. He didn’t consider himself superior to those capable soldiers.

It was only when Captain Ye assigned him tasks and provided him with some weapons that Hu Duohai finally realized he was being made cannon fodder!

No wonder they were willing to sacrifice a bottle of Evolution Potion! No, it wasn’t a sacrifice; he had also given up a card!

Hu Duohai realized that his card might be worth far more than the Evolution Potion.

Yet, he said nothing and didn’t show a hint of dissatisfaction towards Captain Ye, even obediently leading some people here to be cannon fodder.

Because Hu Duohai knew that expressing discontent would be pointless. The final outcome wouldn’t be getting what he deserved, but rather becoming a corpse.

So he wisely chose to obey and entrusted his fate to the heavens. Hu Duohai understood one thing: under a roof, one must bow down; if he couldn’t reclaim his fairness, he could only submit.

However, the appearance of this beautiful woman made Hu Duohai see a glimmer of hope for fairness.

An evolver… a strange weapon…

More importantly, with the sharp hearing he had honed battling demolition workers, he caught commands being relayed from a man through the walkie-talkie the woman was carrying.

All of this proved that the woman was part of a team, and given her formidable strength, she was not the leader of that team!

In just one day after the apocalypse, a team powerful enough to defend itself like this must have its own methods of becoming stronger!

Hu Duohai’s heart raced at the thought of acquiring those methods, more than he had desired physical needs for many years.
