Using persistence to welcome hope, and exchanging hope for survival, this is the creed of many survivors in the apocalypse.
It is not that their ideological realm is so high, but rather that the state of the world forces them to do so.
Aside from the people of the Cloud Port Alliance, whether it be the scattered reinforcements arriving or the powerful existences like the Ying City Alliance and the heavenly phenomenon war department, their true intention is to seek wealth and benefits.
However, the development of events was beyond their expectations; the number of sea beasts was overwhelming, and their strength was far beyond what the humans of a single city could withstand. When surrounded in the Inner City, everyone present was persisting.
They hoped that this persistence would bring about hope—the hope of survival, praying that these sea beasts would mysteriously disappear just as they had mysteriously arrived.
No one had not considered breaking out, but facing the endless sea beasts, even Cloud Summit Villa or the heavenly phenomenon war department lacked the confidence to break out alive.
With the protection of the Inner City, they could perhaps confront the sea beasts for a while, but without these walls, humanity truly had no confidence whatsoever.
But at the moment the city walls collapsed, the beliefs in the hearts of all humans crumbled simultaneously.
Death was something survivors faced every day; they often flaunted their fearlessness, even mocking those who shrank back in the face of death, calling them cowards.
But when the day came that death was inevitable, they found that they were not much better than those whom they had previously mocked.
Staring blankly, in pain, giving up, going mad...
Everyone displayed different reactions when facing death, but one thing was the same: regardless of the performance, it was all caused by despair.
At this moment, the three pillar forces of the Inner City made different choices.
Under the leadership of Meng Xiangjiang, the elegant knight corps had fought desperately before; the entire team suffered heavy losses in this battle.
Not only had half of their number died, but many who were severely injured had lost their fighting capability, leaving only one-third of them still able to move.
This casualty rate, in a time of prosperity, would be enough to cause an elite force to collapse.
The reason they were still persisting was that the city had not yet fallen.
But now that it had fallen, Meng Xiangjiang ordered a breakout, while he himself took advantage of those breaking out having rushed a little farther away, bringing along his most trusted team in the opposite direction to a certain location in the Inner City.
There lay a secret passage he had left behind.
Although he didn’t know if this secret passage still existed or whether it would be destroyed by the sea beasts that had drilled up from the ground, it was still a glimmer of hope. If it had not been discovered, Meng Xiangjiang felt he could survive today.
As for the reinforcements that had come to help him at the Cloud Port, he did not think about them at all, nor did he have time to care about the heavenly phenomenon war department he was eager to join.
His only thought at this moment was to survive.

Mo Ye also made the decision to break out at the moment the city fell.
She had yet to wait for Ye Zhongming’s return, and therefore the prepared escape route was no longer usable at this point.
No one had anticipated that the two strongest individuals of Cloud Summit had just gone outside the city to investigate the black smoke and had yet to return after two days.
Mo Ye gave a brief speech in front of everyone, clarifying Cloud Summit's stance and the challenges that lay ahead. At this moment, she rose in the hearts of the people of Cloud Summit and Ying City to become the third figure in Cloud Summit after Ye Zhongming and Xia Lei, following her strength.
