“Which batch is this?”
Ye Zhongming looked at the group of researchers being lifted out of the experimental chamber, his expression as dark as a pot that hadn't been cleaned in ten years.
After killing the Earth Slaver Race, everyone thought this was a significant victory, and even believed it marked the beginning of a complete victory.
Indeed, it was a victory, but a complete victory now seemed a long way off.
Just the series of troubles arising from obtaining a large number of Slaver corpses was giving the scientists of the Sule Alliance a headache.
Firstly, these corpses, whether large or small, were piled together and began secreting an unknown gas. This gas was highly toxic, colorless, and odorless. The first group of soldiers entering to process the corpses fainted within minutes. By the time others outside discovered the problem and rushed in to carry them out, it was too late; all these soldiers had died from the poison.
And this wasn’t the end of it. After these soldiers died, the corpses underwent tremendous changes. Their bodies became unusually hard, and some parts started to tremble incessantly. A few even exhibited signs of "returning to life," sitting straight up from the ground.
Although there were no further movements, it was still quite shocking.
Looking at the warriors whose skin had turned nearly the same color as the Slavers, everyone’s expression was grim.
This transformation was somewhat terrifying; could this be the ability of the Slavers? Could they transfer or resurrect their life through other beings? Or was it another form of continuation?
These warriors couldn’t withstand the poison and perished, which led to a “shallow” transformation? If someone could endure the poison without dying, would they undergo changes similar to zombies?
What connection did this poison have with the virus that turned humans into zombies on Earth?
In pursuit of this answer, Ye Zhongming had instructed people to extract various tissues and fluids from the zombies for comparison with this toxic gas.
Secondly, since the toxic gas was discovered, the scientists of the Sule Alliance naturally began searching for ways to neutralize it. Even if they could not completely eliminate the toxin for now, they found temporary protective measures. Thus, everyone moved the corpses out and placed them in different locations. This way, even if more toxic gas was released, its concentration would significantly decrease. Wearing specially made protective suits, they could basically ensure safety.
However, unexpectedly, just when everyone thought everything was fine, even top researchers like Sister Hong began studying the Slaver corpses, and these well-protected scientists started experiencing hallucinations. Some even began to attack their colleagues.
Fortunately, these researchers were not too powerful and didn’t have any potent weaponry. Aside from some initial casualties, the incident was quickly brought under control.
Sister Hong was also injured in the chaos but was rescued in time and was currently receiving treatment.
To find out what was causing the hallucinations, the Sule Alliance repeatedly sent out various types of research evolvers to attempt to investigate, but all failed.
“Sixth batch.”
Jie Su’s face was as ugly as Ye Zhongming’s; they basically had no good methods left. They could send in peak experts, but there were no top researchers among them. Even if they could resist the hallucination state once inside, it would be difficult to find the cause.
Furthermore, everyone merely speculated that peak experts might be able to resist. What if they couldn't and fell into hallucination, launching attacks instead? The destruction caused by that would be too great.
“When you were on your home planet, were there definitely no such issues?”
The person speaking to Ye Zhongming was a thin, skeletal old man, a once-great researcher who had long since retired. This time, the killing of the Slaver race had drawn him out, and after hearing about the initial research setbacks, he had come out of his seclusion to help.
