Gunshots echoed over Lake Heart Island, resonating above the ancestral hall that the Lou family revered as a sacred place for generations.
Whether it was the family warriors watching the commotion, hoping for another thrilling show, or Lou Xiaoling, who had dropped her snacks on the ground in shock, or even Lou Xiaohai, who was grinning eagerly as he watched his elder brother Lou Xiaofeng calmly approach; all eyes were fixed on the twitching headless body on the ground, momentarily frozen in disbelief.
Ye Zhongming hadn’t put down his gun, as if he wasn’t the one who had just committed murder. He walked leisurely forward, the muzzle of his gun aimed at Lou Xiaofeng, who was closest to him.
Bang!
With the second shot, Lou Xiaofeng, who had just been staring blankly at his tragically deceased brother, instantly met the same fate—his head exploded, leaving him bloodied on the ground.
The difference this time was that the Lou family members clearly saw everything unfold.
“Kill him!”
A Lou family uncle, his face twisted in rage, stood up and pointed at Ye Zhongming, who had just taken his third step.
Only then did the Lou family members awaken from their stupor, the enraged warriors pulling their triggers in unison.
A translucent energy shield enveloped Ye Zhongming's body, bullets struck it, producing dazzling flashes of white light.
Meng Lin’s protective energy shield would not let Ye Zhongming off easily. Even if that guy were still alive, such equipment in his hands would be a waste.
The energy shield, supported by a white ring, was an exceptional piece of defensive gear. Survivors in previous lives typically used it for bulletproofing.
The energy shield was activated by the wearer’s mental strength, and every time it encountered an attack, it consumed a portion of that mental strength based on the intensity of the attack. However, if the attack exceeded the shield's defensive limit, it would be broken.
Previously, when Ye Zhongming attacked Meng Lin with the flame blade, Meng Lin activated his shield, but it shattered after just one impact, as the sealing flame blade's attack power surpassed the shield's defensive limit.
Clearly, bullets did not possess the combined attack power of the edge of the moon and flame blade, as they merely produced white light upon hitting the shield. Each round from the assault rifle would decrease Ye Zhongming's mental strength by about five points.
Saying Meng Lin wasted resources was because he could not have had the same mental strength as Ye Zhongming, who had consumed the brain worm and possessed multiple professions. With Ye Zhongming's low-level giant bloodline, he would become a living target, losing effectiveness in intense battles. However, that was not the case for Ye Zhongming; he was fast, agile, and had abundant mental strength. To break this shield, one would need to hit the rapidly moving Ye Zhongming and deplete his mental strength—an incredibly difficult task.
Yet, at this moment, Ye Zhongming had no intention of dodging. Today, he aimed to instill fear into the Lou family.
Bang.
Ye Zhongming fired his third shot, targeting Lou Xiaohai, who had sarcastically mocked him and was secretly competing for the next bottle of two-star evolution elixir with his brother. Even though he tried to dodge, he was still hit in the head, dying on the same date as the brother he looked down upon.
“I’ll kill you!”
Lou Zhengxiao, witnessing the murder of his first son, opened his eyes; upon seeing the second son shot, he stood up, and as the third son was killed, he roared in rage. Lou Zhengxiao had completely lost his sanity.
He never imagined that one day he would watch in despair as all three of his sons died in front of him, while as their father, he could do nothing.
Cruel? Brutal?
Yes, it was cruel and brutal, but that was the apocalypse. When you provoke others, you must be ready to be tormented in return. The reality of the apocalypse often differs greatly from one’s imagination; you reap what you sow. If you win, it's a testament to your prowess; if you lose, it’s your lack of ability—there’s no one else to blame.
