Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 1995: Two Paths 🌌

Published: February 12, 2025

Ye Zhongming brought six bodyguards, all of whom were golden masked warriors. Jie Su had a few more people with him, but since they were here to eat, he sent some back to the aircraft to wait, only bringing two people with him.

The attack had just begun, and two golden masked warriors and one Su Clan guard were killed, immediately reducing their protective force by nearly half.

"Retreat!"

Jie Su's voice came through as he pulled Ye Zhongming to start retreating.

He had to fall back because just from the blade lights in front, it was clear that the attackers were stronger than them; it was basically impossible to force their way through.

While pulling Ye Zhongming back, Jie Su waved his arm forward, sending a beam of light that struck the area where there was still attacking force.

The collision generated a tremendous backlash, completely shattering the already damaged door of the restaurant, and the walls next to it crumbled as well.

The force pushed both sides apart and even caused the waiter who had been sneaking an attack to stagger back a few steps.

At this moment, Jie Su had already brought Ye Zhongming to where they had just been eating, where there was a window leading to the side road.

With a loud bang, a life form emanating a cold air surged up from the ground, and with it appeared countless sharp ice spikes that were about twenty centimeters long, glinting dangerously in the light.

The waiter blown back by the air stream steadied himself and charged toward them, while outside, a huge sound of footsteps echoed, as if the ground itself was trembling.

The expressions of Ye Zhongming and Jie Su darkened as they realized that it was the reputation of Starshine City that had made them lower their guard, giving these people the opportunity to attempt an assassination.

This was the city of neutrality, unchanged for so many years. It was still the capital of art, a commercial hub, and the preferred vacation destination for the All Races of the Universe during leisure time. Of course, it was also the venue for various meetings, both big and small.

After all these years, they had never heard of anyone openly attacking on the streets here!

It was this perception that led the two to feel there was no issue, which caused them to relax their vigilance; when choosing a restaurant, they first considered taste, not safety.

But unexpectedly, someone wanted to kill them outright.

The costs these people would later pay were the last thing on their minds; right now, they only thought about… escaping quickly.

Since these people had acted, they would surely do everything possible to kill them here. They had to flee, even if the route they chose might be guessed by the enemy, or even if it led them into a trap, they had to jump in.

Because if they fled into a trap, they could still struggle for a bit; if they stayed put, they would undoubtedly perish.

"Lord Ling, you all go first."

One golden masked warrior stopped, not looking back as he stood in front of everyone.

If they allowed those ice spikes and the waiter to close in, the instant they were delayed would be enough for the strongest of the attackers to arrive, and everyone would lose their chance to escape.

Thus, he took the initiative to step forward and sacrifice himself to buy time for others to flee.

"Come back!"

Ye Zhongming shouted softly.

How could a single golden masked warrior possibly hold off these three assassins? The moment he bought with his life was only enough for them to break through the window. To sacrifice one person for that, Ye Zhongming felt it wasn’t worth it.

"I'll go too!"

Ye Zhongming was ultimately not their commander. They had received orders from Commander Cheng Liujin to protect Ye Zhongming at all costs.

With the situation critical, they inevitably had to step forward, even if… it meant death.

In that moment, Ye Zhongming had a newfound understanding of the Star Eye Clan.

The other two golden masked warriors exchanged glances; one of them immediately charged out. Although no words were spoken, the intention was clear: the three of them should be able to buy more time for the others to escape.
