Ye Zhongming felt no frustration at all.
He had been ambushed before, but it was rare to realize one was under attack only after the fact. He truly had not sensed a thing. Ever since entering the novice battlefield, Ye Zhongming had been on high alert, and Jie Kui was the same. Yet, despite their caution and vigilance, they had still been approached undetected, which was clearly a matter of ability.
If one’s skills were lacking, there was no point in feeling wronged.
Frustration aside, Ye Zhongming suddenly understood that both he and Jie Kui had been schemed against. They had been calculated by those he merely wanted to identify.
Ye Zhongming didn’t particularly care about the pain in his body. He was fully aware that it was just a minor injury. The attack had been mostly absorbed by the Star-Eye Clan’s armor and the black earth armor hastily donned in the heat of battle. Moreover, he had managed to dodge slightly, lessening the force of the blow, so his injuries were far from severe, despite the blood he had coughed up.
As his body floated sideways in the air, the King of Cloud Summit clearly saw the life form that had ambushed him.
There were two beings, both bent over with unusually long arms. At that moment, they were barefoot, and as they moved, their special structure allowed them to make no sound at all.
Furthermore, when they moved, the exposed skin on their limbs would suddenly have its pores enlarge, as if black holes were sucking in everything around them—sound, scent, everything.
No wonder they could get so close to Ye Zhongming; it turned out they possessed such special abilities.
As Ye Zhongming fell about two meters above the ground, he adjusted his body, changing his descent into an ascent, and swung his weapon toward the life that aimed to eliminate him from above while releasing two shadows, each wielding a weapon, to attack the other.
Jie Kui was injured quite severely, evident from his nearly straight drop; Ye Zhongming needed to assist him until he could recover.
With a soft 'pu', the mimetic weapon's blade successfully sliced into the enemy's palm, but Ye Zhongming felt no joy, as this was a trap set by the enemy, who had deliberately caught it with his hand.
Quick actions and rapid movements were the initial impressions of this life form.
In the next second, this impression deepened—its defense was excellent, and its healing was extremely fast.
The mimetic weapon cut through the palm of this being, but it couldn’t advance any further; the muscles inside contracted powerfully, wrapping around the energy blade, and the blood that initially flowed out stopped within seconds. Ye Zhongming thought that if his weapon hadn’t been caught in the enemy’s palm, the wound might have sealed itself by now.
Ye Zhongming decisively abandoned the mimetic weapon that had been caught and could no longer change form. He knew that if he didn’t let go, this person would hold onto his weapon and push him to the ground directly.
Another shadow appeared behind the life form, and a dagger aimed for its nape.
The ambusher tilted his head, and the dagger grazed from the side, leaving a trail of blood. One of its arms shot back, and the shadow was blown up, the mental shock instantly affecting it. However, the life form disregarded everything and lunged directly at the falling Ye Zhongming.
They weren’t far from the ground, and with that impact, the two crashed down together.
Everything happened quickly, so fast that it was hard to follow.
Everyone understood the dangers of close combat, especially at the nine-star level; a moment of carelessness could lead to instant death.
The moment the two collided, they began to grapple in the small space, employing all sorts of treacherous techniques.
To be honest, this person was no match for Ye Zhongming, especially in terms of hand-to-hand combat; he was only relying on his super-fast reflexes and monstrous healing ability to contend with the King of Cloud Summit.
As long as he had a little time, Ye Zhongming could easily take him down.
