In most cases, the apocalypse is always very quiet, with some killings happening silently.

As the Cloud Summit team ventured deeper into the Cold Bay Rainforest, battles began to occur more frequently.

This was still under the condition that Ye Zhongming and Xia Bai did not obscure their powerful aura in the slightest.

The feeling this rainforest gave everyone became increasingly mysterious and tricky.

The scale of these battles was not large, and they were extremely brief; excluding those that were resolved in an instant, there were more than a dozen fights that lasted over five seconds, with the longest battle taking almost a full minute.

Do not underestimate this minute; in such an apocalyptic forest, it signifies tremendous risk.

There was a seemingly harmless mushroom that blended in with the ground, appearing as though it had not mutated. However, when the team approached, it released a large amount of gray poisonous mist and then shot up from the ground, using its powerful root system that absorbed nutrients from the soil to attack the Cloud Summit team.

These poisonous mushrooms were abundant, with a whole patch hidden among the trees. The visible parts above the ground were not large, similar to normal mushrooms, which meant there were tens of thousands once grouped together.

The defensive capabilities of these poisonous mushrooms were poor, even to the point of being fragile; any attack from a member of the team was enough to eliminate them instantly.

Yet, their roots were sharp enough to penetrate green defensive gear, and the dizzying poison created an excellent attack environment for these roots.

Although the battle ended in just a minute, over half of the warriors sustained minor injuries, and their equipment suffered varying degrees of damage.

In fact, one warrior’s battle beast, being of the support type with poor defense, was killed by these poisonous mushrooms. The once-numb killer, a female warrior, displayed rare sorrow on her face.

While lamenting the fragility yet sharpness of these inconspicuous level two or three poisonous mushrooms, everyone also understood that this rainforest was proving its dangers in this manner.

"If we were allowed to push through here directly, it might not be so troublesome," said a captain of the red dress guard after personally slaying a giant python that had fallen from above, shaking his head at his blood-soaked self.

It was indeed the case; if the team had come here to explore rather than to destroy, they would not have felt as constrained as they currently did.

While this was true, it could not be done. Not to mention that this mission was only to seek out clues, even if they were here to gather materials or explore, leveling this place was out of the question.

Only if the entire Cloud Summit came could there be such a possibility. However, this kind of approach of depleting resources would not yield a proportional gain, and no rational superpower would engage in it.

Ye Zhongming knew that the frequent yet not too serious attacks in the rainforest had affected everyone's emotions, but he also had no way to change that, nor would he try.

He understood that his subordinates would quickly adapt to this environment.

Everyone had taken the detoxification pills prepared in advance, so the majority of the poisonous mist dangers in the rainforest were minimal. Besides, in Ye Zhongming's space, there were even more potent antidotes that could deal with emergencies.

As the Cloud Summit team gradually adapted to combat in the rainforest, their efficiency began to improve slowly.

Defensive warriors walked outside, while ranged and airborne capable warriors walked in the middle. Various support battle beasts fulfilled their roles, making the formation more stable. Ye Zhongming and Xia Bai controlled both the ground and sky, ensuring they could respond in time.

Those specializing in avoidance were responsible for scouting and long-range vigilance. They were skilled at this, and Ye Zhongming would not let them awkwardly remain in the team.
