CHAPTER TEXT:
"Boss, the zombie horde is coming!"
Xiao Min reported to Ye Zhongming as she approached him.
Ye Zhongming nodded and looked at the towering corpse tower ahead, giving orders for the evolvers he had gathered to escape.
For a task involving at least a thousand people, the number of corpses was not an issue. Ye Zhongming just didn’t understand what the corpse tower, which would soon be overwhelmed and devoured by the zombie horde, was really for.
However, since the Tarros Red Dwarf requested it, that’s what they would do.
Due to the intense battle between Ye Zhongming and Meng Ao earlier, many buildings had collapsed, especially near the river. Some ruins had filled the river channel, allowing the zombie horde from the North River District to approach quickly, rapidly spreading throughout Ying City. It wouldn't be long before Jicheng would turn into a zombie-infested territory.
So far, the zombie horde still maintained a level advantage over humans, and as more high-level zombies appeared, they developed intelligence. Even with Ye Zhongming and the strength of the red dress guard, they did not dare to confront half the city’s zombies head-on.
The evolvers who had gathered to build the corpse tower were overjoyed, and they all ran towards the city outskirts, fully aware that if they didn’t escape now, the fast zombies would catch up to them and turn them into dinner... or perhaps breakfast.
“We should leave too!”
Ye Zhongming mounted the earth yellow pill and began retreating with the guard.
With this situation coming to a close, he felt that they had completed four tasks satisfactorily, and now he could only wait to see how the Tarros Red Dwarf would distribute the rewards.
In addition to these rewards, Ye Zhongming had other gains... from Wu.
This unfortunate high-ranking agent from the Lena Star Camp was originally here to deal with Meng Ao, but his methods weren’t quite right, which angered Ye Zhongming.
Even though they had fallen out, Ye Zhongming chose not to kill Wu; he wasn’t sure about some things and didn’t dare to act too ruthlessly. However, it was necessary to extort some items as 'compensation'.
In order to save his life, Wu gave Ye Zhongming three items.
The first was a piece of spatial equipment, an unassuming silver metal ring with a vast space of over a thousand cubic meters.
Spatial equipment was already rare, and now Ye Zhongming only had a few items with this attribute, like the space crystal and Bloodstained Battle Boots material backpack. As he needed to carry more and more items, especially sand to gain a twenty percent ability enhancement when activating his bloodline, the existing space was becoming inadequate.
This spatial ring would undoubtedly greatly alleviate that problem.
When Ye Zhongming saw Wu present this equipment, he seemed not to care too much, which made Ye Zhongming suspicious—had the Cosmic Races already mastered spatial technology and created such equipment?
After receiving the ring, he examined it closely and found no signs of mass-produced standard equipment. There were even some unfamiliar characters and symbols engraved on it, like a manufacturer's signature.
This calmed Ye Zhongming’s concerns; otherwise, he might have reconsidered. He didn’t want something that Wu deemed worthless.
The second item was rather peculiar: a jade bed.
It had no rank, no glow, just its own gentle and delicate quality.
Although it looked nice, in peacetime, it would definitely be considered a national treasure. However, in the apocalypse, its value diminished; it was beautiful but impractical, and evolvers wouldn’t be interested in such a jade bed.
But this was different. Wu explained that it wasn’t from Earth, but rather from the Cosmic Races, made from a material called He Sui. Sleeping on it had two notable effects: one was to increase mental strength, and the other was to enhance skin toughness.
The former is easy to understand; increasing mental strength essentially boosts combat ability. The latter, skin toughness, Wu explained, was an invisible and intangible change that proved very useful in battle. Because toughness equates to skin defense, over time, sufficient increases in toughness would be like wearing an extra piece of protective gear.
