Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 2: Fleeting Dreams of Humanity ✨

Published: August 31, 2025

Hello, this is Suzuki.

For some reason, back in my school days, I was often called Sato—a rather inconspicuous guy, Suzuki here.

They say you don’t feel pain in dreams, but haven’t you ever had dreams about toothaches or other dreams where you sense the symbol of “pain”?

No?

Well, that aside.

It seems I fainted for about two hours from the intense pain just before being swept away by the dust waves, presumably caused by the meteor shower gouging the ground.

The time was displayed constantly on the menu. Quietly convenient.

I lifted my half-buried body out of the soil.

Huh? I can’t get up...

It feels similar to those winter mornings when you just can’t get out of bed.

My hands move, but I feel sluggish and even operating the menu feels like a chore.

If only I had psychic powers to manipulate the menu and check the logs.

Out of desperation, I imagined operating it with my fingers—and it worked perfectly. As expected in a dream, strange things are free and easy.

Using this mental control, I viewed the logs: “Satou’s level increased” was annoyingly repeated over and over. I mentally played the famous level-up chime “charararacchara~” while scrolling back through the logs.

After some time, I finally spotted a different message.

>Acquired skill ‘summoning magic: otherworld’.

>Acquired summoning magic ‘meteor shower’.

So ‘meteor shower’ is a magic that summons meteors.

This magic doesn’t exist in FFW. The summoning magics there are only for golems or spirits. The word “otherworld” sounds a bit edgy and out of place. Neither FFW nor WW has “otherworld”. No point worrying about it in a dream, so I ignored it.

After these messages, several “level up” messages followed.

The messages have timestamps, so the order is correct: “Skill acquired,” “Magic belonging to skill acquired,” then “Level up.”

In other words, this RPG isn’t the type where you learn skills or magic automatically upon leveling up!

“Well, why am I analyzing this inside a dream...”

Seems my gamer habits of analyzing things kick in.

But there’s no use being embarrassed in a dream, so I continued analyzing as I pleased.

After all, my real body should be taking a nice rest during this time!

I temporarily left the logs and decided to check the magic and skill tabs.

“But first,”

I opened “Settings” and added the “Log” screen to the basic display.

Switching screens every time is a hassle.

There are two magics listed: “meteor shower” and “full map exploration.”

There are two skills: “summoning magic: otherworld” and “arcane logic magic: otherworld.”

“Full map exploration” belongs to the arcane logic category.

So magics and skills I use get registered here.

But since I can’t use what I haven’t learned, this might be a special irregular pattern for first-time bonus skills like this time. If I were the programmer, I’d reject such a design outright.

My status has changed significantly. After all, my level jumped from 1 straight to 310. Before sleeping, in FFW, the server capped levels at 50. Though on the development test server, levels could be raised infinitely, so maybe that memory is influencing this.

The experience points field is filled with nines, astronomical values I can’t even bother counting digits for. I wish they’d put commas every three digits. Maybe I’ll suggest that in the next update.

Attributes like strength (STR) and intelligence (INT) have reached the max display of 99. In FFW, the client limits display to 99, but the actual values aren’t capped. When the level cap is lifted incrementally, the display limits get adjusted. So perhaps these values are actually higher?

HP (health), MP (mana), and stamina (SP) have all reached 3100. These values increase by a fixed 10 per level. The various skills reduce consumption to differentiate.

According to the planner, raising them separately would complicate balancing.

Skill points have also hit 3100.

I wonder if I can allocate them since I just acquired skills?
