Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 165: Battle in the Arena (3) ⚔️

Published: September 4, 2025

This is Satou. There is a thing called tabletop RPGs, where you fully immerse yourself as a character in another world. But unlike Westerners, Japanese people tend to be shy, so conversations often end up quite business-like.

Let me say it again: Japanese people are mostly shy.

From across the arena, a scouting party of the Bird Tribe flew in.

It seems the Duke’s army has finally arrived. Checking the map, there are ten iron golems and 3,000 knights surrounding the arena. Several mobile artillery units also appear to have arrived.

“Tch, they showed up this late,” the hero muttered in annoyance.

I gave my parting words to the hero. It’s about time I made my exit before things get troublesome.

“Hero, I’ll be taking my leave soon. I don’t like getting too close to the powerful types.”

Sorry to say, but I’m actually on the side of the powerful already.

“I get that feeling. You can probably tell, but I’m Hayato Masaki. Confusing, but Masaki’s my last name. You’re Japanese too — no, that hair means you’re a reincarnator, right? Originally from Japan?”

“Whether I’m Japanese or not, you don’t need to say it. I’m Nanashi, the Nameless Hero. Maybe we’ll meet on the battlefield someday.”

Calling yourself a hero — seriously? I wanted to just roll on the floor, it was so embarrassing. I should’ve installed an ‘edgy middle schooler language converter’ app on my phone.

Really glad I have the poker face skill.

“Wait! Won’t you fight alongside me? I want you for the battle against the Demon King.”

Gross.

At least say “I want your strength.” I can’t handle someone more homo than loli.

“Is that a proposal? Thanks for the offer, but I’ll pass. Some scary older sisters are glaring at me from behind. See you, pretty boy.”

What’s with the “pretty boy”?! Somebody stop me. Trying to sound androgynous just made me sound weird.

At least I succeeded in having a character that doesn’t remind people of me, but it’s too creepy — I might die.

The scout unit that infiltrated the arena seats spotted me and started calling “Yamato.”

What’s that about?

I looked at myself and understood.

The Holy Sword Clausolas, split into 13 pieces, was floating around me like options or bits from an old shooting game.

That probably reminded them of the painting of Yamato-san in the museum.

But wasn’t Yamato a big guy wielding a two-meter greatsword?

I doubt they can really equate him with my current androgynous appearance. Then again, I reconsidered since the soldiers were some distance away and couldn’t tell my height.

Well, before I leave, I should heal the near-dead princes’ wounds a bit. It’d be bad if they died now — it’d feel like an MP kill.

Since digging the princes out from under the remains of monsters was troublesome, I stored the remains in my storage and healed the princes lying on the ground with water magic. I only intended a little healing, but they fully recovered. Their white hair and aging weren’t fixed, though — that’s too much care for me. They can go to the temple later.

Both had lost their equipment, which was also stored along with the monster corpses, so they were half-naked. Since it felt wrong that way, I draped a cloak I had previously recovered from robbers over their bodies.

“See you, hero.”

“Yeah, see you next time on the Demon King’s battlefield!”

Shoot, I forgot to say I defeated the Demon King. Oh well, probably the gods will send a divine oracle later.

I ascended several hundred meters with skystride, then accelerated with wind magic: Air Cannon, flying off into the far sky. Last time I tried, I exceeded 100 kilometers per hour. I’ll experiment with maximum speed later.

Vanishing into the sky like that — feels like a hero from the Showa era.

While above the Duke’s Capital, I confirmed that Arisa and the others had properly taken refuge in the mansion’s basement. Sera had been safely rescued and was in the same room as Arisa and the others. The former count and his wife, as well as the servants, seemed fine too.
