Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 145: In the Duke's Capital 🏰

Published: September 4, 2025

Satou here. It’s said that Japanese people are generally impatient compared to the rest of the world, but it seems the people in this other world aren’t all so laid-back either.

“Peanuts are flying!”

“Monsters~?”

Pochi and Tama, who came back from the deck, grabbed both my sleeves and dragged me out onto the deck.

Following the direction they pointed, there was an airship floating. I had confirmed it on the map, but seeing the real thing was quite impressive. It was a rigid airship about 100 meters long, shaped like a peanut. Whether it was floating due to helium or some magical artifact was unclear.

Based on the flight route I checked on the map, it probably arrived this morning from the Royal Capital.

“That’s an airship.”

“Air-ship?”

“It’s a ship that flies in the sky.”

“That’s amazing! I want to ride it!”

Yeah, I want to ride it too.

Normally, I’d think it’s for military use, so whether they’d let us on is questionable.

“Wow, this is like a fantasy. I’m so excited!”

“How do you think it’s floating?”

Alisa and Liza also came over. Seems like it’s Alisa’s first time seeing one too. I wonder if the hero party rode on a special airship or something.

“Master, I want that.”

“Hehe, it’s a cute shape, isn’t it?”

Nana was reaching out towards the airship as if to grab it. Lulu said it was cute, but cute? I wasn’t sure if it was a difference in taste.

“Later, why not have Alisa make a cushion in that shape? It would be cute and soft.”

Nana clapped her hands once and went to sweet-talk Alisa. Holding back reluctance, Alisa was being hugged from behind as Nana passionately talked about how adorable the airship was. Eventually, Alisa would probably give in. Nana never gives up in situations like that.

“Master, I asked Shellna-san, and apparently demi-humans aren’t welcome inside the Great Wall of Ouyugok City. Before docking, I think it’s best to have Pochi, Tama, and Mia wear cloaks.”

“That’s right. I’ll tell them to wear them once the airship excitement dies down.”

The Shellna that Liza mentioned was the tour assistant. Her real job was apparently a civil servant under the prefect of Grylian City—the Count of Worgock. At first, when I confirmed her on AR display, I thought the prefect had assigned an overseer, but she said she was filling in as a tour assistant because she used to work part-time as one when she was younger to pay for tuition.

Thanks to the prefect’s kindness, we were allowed to stay at Count Worgock’s Mansion in the Duke’s Capital. We could have stayed at an ordinary inn, but since a martial arts tournament was being held, decent places were probably full, so we decided to accept the generous offer.

The ship we arrived on was heading to the noble and merchant dock built in front of the Great Wall of the Duke’s Capital, not the cargo dock connected to downtown.

The Great Wall refers to the original outer wall of Ouyugok City. Since the population had increased too much and people started settling outside the city, a new outer wall about three meters high was constructed. However, unlike the original Great Wall, it wasn’t strong enough to protect against monster attacks. So, the area inside the Great Wall is inhabited by nobles, wealthy residents, and technicians, while the outside is divided for workers and demi-humans, the poorer class.

After disembarking, we headed to Count Worgock’s Mansion guided by Shellna-san.

Thanks to the prefect’s pass, we could enter the city without inspection. However, I felt there were fewer guards than usual. According to the map search, guards were patrolling the city streets.

Perhaps it was because last night, after defeating the Demon King, we left the corpses of his followers and items that could identify them covered with sheets in the castle courtyard. We also left behind the Demon King’s resurrection plan and costumes of the secret society “Wings of Freedom,” so they must be busy cleaning up. Good luck.
