“Hey, hey, the forest is splitting apart—what the hell are those guys?”
“Captain.”
“I know. Hey, everyone, before the forest closes back up, follow the young ladies.”
“““Understood.”””
At my words, my subordinates responded with strong, spirited voices.
I’d heard a rumor before that Elves can create paths through the forest at will. I thought it was some foolish drunken tale, but it seems to be true. Perfect, I’ll hitch a ride to get past that crowd.
Still, what’s going on in Baron Muno’s Domain? Judging by their appearance, that crowd has to be people from Muno City.
Did a massive horde of monsters attack from the forest?
If that were the case, they’d be barricaded inside the city, so what happened?
What was supposed to be a simple task to fetch my Master’s nephew and his wife by order of his grace the Duke has turned into a seriously suspicious situation.
◇Tama◇
Nyu!
A path just appeared in the forest~?
It’s like a secret fairy technique. I’ll have Mia teach me next time.
I can gather so many prey—free to grab as I like♪
I was standing and dancing on the horse, but Liza scolded me, saying, “Sit down, it’s dangerous.”
Can Liza see behind her too?
Huh?
In front, past the people running down the road beyond the forest, I see black figures?
Ah, an old lady fell.
A black monkey-like one is baring its fangs and bullying the old lady.
No bullying the old lady!
I throw stones from atop the horse.
Oops, the black one's head disappeared.
Will Master be mad at me?
Green blood is oozing from the black one—it was a monster, it seems.
Phew, safe.
◇Liza◇
“Mia, to the highway.”
“Got it.”
Mia connects the path toward the highway.
I want to hurry to Master, but I can’t abandon Master’s kin.
Master shows mercy even to bandits. He wouldn’t approve of leaving innocent people behind.
I charge magic power into the Demonic Spear. Ever since Master reforged it, it feels like an extension of my arm. I can swing it freely as if nerve endings run to the tip.
“By this spear, I won’t let them advance any further.”
The fast weaklings who already passed have been dealt with by Tama’s stone-throwing. I’ll leave those to her.
The enemy is a horde of putrid soldiers (zombies).
“Mia, arrows won’t work on these. Please support me with magic.”
“Mm.”
I slash the clinging putrid soldiers (zombies) with the Demonic Spear. This isn’t the standard way to use a spear, but thanks to the demon blade effect Master taught me and the Demonic Spear, I can take them down as easily as cutting dead branches.
A regular spear would have snapped long ago if handled like this.
“I’ll back you up, Scale Tribe’s big sis.”
The mounted troops following behind seem to join our ranks.
I just hope they don’t get in the way…
◇Karina◇
My fist stopped before it could strike Mr. Ishizuchi.
“Laka, why do you interfere?”
“Lady Karina, it’s a magic attack from the demon race. Come back to your senses.”
I felt Laka’s magical artifact glow blue, washing away the hatred inside me like it was being cleansed.
Others affected by the magic seemed to be a young giant and Lord Zotol.
The giant under the spell is being pinned down by another giant.
Lord Zotol is being held upside down by his feet, thrashing.
It’s a bit embarrassing.
“Mr. Ishizuchi, strike the left front.”
“Understood.”
Mr. Ishizuchi punched the nearby trees.
Surprising.
From where no one was, many black figures with bat wings appeared. Later, I asked Laka, and she said these demons weren’t invisible but disguised as trees. It’s called mimicry. Like insects.
“Ku hahaha, young lady, unexpected reinforcements—”
The demons were thrown out of the forest with a crack mid-speech.
The giant seems short-tempered. A female giant beside Mr. Ishizuchi swung a huge club and knocked all the black demons away. Like some lumberjack from a fairy tale named Bāsekkyū.
