Today, three chapters are released simultaneously.
This is the third chapter.
“You really went all out again, Ryoma. Your face looked much better earlier, so you must have had a good rest… but this is the result of playing around on your day off? Ah, no need to explain. Or rather, don’t go into details here. We don’t know who might be listening.”
Surrounded by four serious-looking guards, Mr. Fuse spoke on behalf of them.
“Kamil, you know the most about mana. Tell us what you think about it from your perspective.”
“Understood. First, I can understand causing a sandstorm of that scale. I felt a significant mana release at the start, and advanced magic can create spells of that magnitude.
However, there are three points that stood out. One, the power to completely reduce such a large building to dust.
Two, despite using magic with such a wide range of effect, there was absolutely no impact outside the grounds.
And three, perhaps he was using different magic without chanting, but it seemed like he changed the range and movement instantly based on the situation each time.
Anyone with a fair amount of knowledge about magic would immediately realize from those three points that the magic just now would be impossibly difficult under normal circumstances. Ryoma-kun must have somehow solved that difficulty… but that magic—or rather, that method? Anyway, it’s better to just call it Ryoma-kun’s family’s hereditary magic.”
“‘Hereditary magic’?”
I’d never heard that before, but from the sound of it, it must be magic passed down within a family.
When I confirmed,
“That understanding is basically correct. To add a bit… hereditary magic mainly refers to research legacies passed down only to select members of a family renowned as magic researchers. It’s special or complex magic, something like secret teachings.
Powerful magic can become powerful weapons, and is a source of livelihood. So many people want to learn it. But if you try to forcibly uncover secrets when no crimes have been committed, that’s troublesome, right?
Especially since magic researchers are often secretive or stubborn, and famous families are usually nobles, causing trouble over such matters can escalate into a major problem. So when someone says it’s hereditary magic, it’s taboo to pursue it further. This is an unspoken understanding mainly among nobles, and it’s the easiest way to avoid pressing the matter.”
“I see.”
“If someone is persistent or won’t back down, come consult us immediately. That should be fine for now.”
“Understood.”
“All right, that’s enough on this matter.”
When Kamil’s advice ended, Mr. Fuse sharply cut off the conversation and moved on.
“Anyway, since the demolition was finished with Ryoma’s magic, what’s next?”
“Oh, right.”
It might seem strange to bring it up just after doing something so flashy, but there was one more thing I wanted to try.
“Like before, while playing around during my time off, I thought of something else. But I played too much then and didn’t have enough mana to experiment.”
“That sounds fine. After doing something like this, it’s no big deal now. Also, if anyone gets hurt, it’s better if we’re around.”
‘…Indeed.’
Everyone agreed with Mr. Fuse, and with a resigned feeling, permission was given.
So, one more round!
I gave instructions to the sand slime too, activating sand magic.
The sand piled into a mountain was whipped up by a gust of wind and began moving again… but this time, instead of controlling it in complex motions like before, I just made it gather and pile up in one corner near the edge of the grounds.
It looked like a giant hourglass turned upside down, and gradually the shape took form as a huge tofu-like rectangular sand mountain.
Among the onlookers, some voiced their surprise, but since it wasn’t moving in complex ways like during the demolition, confusion outweighed amazement.
Indeed, from the outside, it was hard to understand.
But I, who had contracted with the sand slime assimilated into the sand, could clearly see inside. And just now, what I had been thinking was completed.
