This time, five chapters are updated simultaneously.

This is the fourth chapter.

The next day.

I took the work clothes I made yesterday, prepared the slimes, and told everyone that I was going out.

"Well then, I'm off."

"Take care of yourself."

"Have a good day, Mr. Ryoma."

"Good luck!"

"We'll be handling things here as well."

Seeing me off, I headed to the Guild.

When I arrived at the Guild, I found the receptionist from yesterday and approached her desk.

"Good morning."

"Oh, you're the kid from yesterday, right? Ryoma-kun, if I'm not mistaken? Glad you came."

"Yes, I'd like to take on a request..."

"Yes, I heard about that. Thank you for accepting it. We were really in trouble."

"Then, please proceed with the formalities."

"Alrighty... this should be good. Take this request form and start from the west district. Also, here is the key to the entrance of the cesspool, so don't lose it."

"Understood. Thank you. I'll be going now."

"Take care."

Leaving the Guild, I arrived at the westernmost edge of Gimul city, at the communal toilet's cesspool. Using the key, I opened the door attached to the brick wall. Inside was a small brick building with another door.

Passing through the first door and trying to close it, I noticed there was no keyhole on the inside; it seems to be a double-layered structure that can't be locked from within.

Well, it’s fine to leave it open.

With the door closed behind me, I put on the work clothes and makeshift waders, then opened the entrance to the cesspool itself.

"Ugh!?"

I quickly shut it. You can guess why... the cesspool, left unattended for months, emitted an overwhelming stench. The irritation hit my nose so badly that tears welled up. The scavenger slimes seemed fine, so I let them go inside first, instructing them to separate and process the waste, but I was still reeling from the shock.

After some time, I finally calmed down and asked the cleaner slimes to soak the hand towel covering my mouth with deodorizer to deal with the smell. Also, since my eyes were irritated earlier, I had a cleaner slime sit on my head like goggles to shield my eyes. Since cleaner slimes are highly transparent, my vision was still clear—thank goodness for cleaner slimes.

Fully equipped, I entered and found stairs leading down to a spacious underground tunnel. On both sides of the central path, there were piles of filth, with scavenger slimes swarming and diligently processing it. I washed off the grime stuck to the ceiling and walls with the elemental magic ‘Mist Wash’ and then heated the residual water with my original lightning magic ‘Range’ to disinfect.

The place was so filthy that I thought even a little cleaning would help... and it worked. Using the non-elemental magic ‘Appraisal’ to check, the info changed from:

“Dirty ceiling — ceiling with filth here and there”

to

“Stone ceiling — ceiling of the cesspool in Gimul city’s communal toilet, cleaned and disinfected through washing and heating, now clean.”

The information shifted from “dirty ceiling” to “stone ceiling.” Checking the detailed info, it seems the heat disinfection was effective. I always wonder where this info comes from, but so far it’s never been wrong... very useful in moments like this.

Continuing the cleaning, it took five hours just to finish one cesspool, and then an additional three hours due to an unexpected incident.

Because the scavenger slimes ate a large amount of waste, they were ready to start splitting. Thanks to the beast taming contract, I knew this, so taking advantage of the fact that the cesspool was out of public view, I ordered the slimes to split. After all, there are 29 more cesspools like this one, so having more slimes would speed up the work.

As a result of the splitting, the number of scavenger slimes reached 1,464. Before splitting, there were 730, so four of them must have split twice... Did they really accumulate that many nutrients in just a day or two?

Now all that was left was reporting the job done. Unlike in my previous life, no one was rushing or pushing me to hurry. I leisurely checked whether any slimes had changed.
