Chapter 95: A Permanent Solution

Zhao Hai did not ask Zhao Zui about the situation in the Corpse Swamp; it wasn't the right time. There would be plenty of opportunities to ask later. Right now, they had more important matters to attend to.

After more than two hours, Zhao Qian had crossed the mountain and arrived at the gorge he mentioned. The location of this gorge was excellent, situated between two mountains with flat terrain and a small creek running through it—an ideal camping site.

However, this was not the best ambush location. The terrain was too flat, without any concealed spots, making it unsuitable for anyone looking to launch a surprise attack.

Yet for Zhao Hai, any location could become an ambush site, as he could instantly teleport Zhao Zui and the others to that gorge, eliminating the need for hiding spots.

Zhao Hai and Merlin emerged from the space, carefully inspecting the terrain of the gorge. There really wasn’t much to see. It was clear that their opponents had chosen this location because it was not a suitable place for an ambush.

Merlin, having been on the battlefield, had some understanding of military tactics. After a brief look at the terrain, she realized that those coming to attack them were likely experts in battlefield formations, which posed a significant challenge.

If the skilled fighters sent to deal with Zhao Hai and the others lacked a unified command and could not operate like an army, then Zhao Hai's group could easily eliminate them. After all, they possessed considerable strength.

However, if those attackers were under a unified command led by an experienced commander, eliminating them would be much more difficult. The strength of those fighters was not to be underestimated; a disorganized group was entirely different from a cohesive unit.

After surveying the terrain, Zhao Hai and his companions returned to the space. Since they had already arrived, they could only wait patiently.

Zhao Hai and his group sat in the villa's living room, watching the images on the screen. He summoned Zhao Zui to inquire about the situation in the Corpse Swamp.

However, the news Zhao Zui brought back left Zhao Hai somewhat disappointed, though it was also within his expectations. Zhao Zui and the others had just entered the outskirts of the Corpse Swamp and had not yet grasped its true dangers. Moreover, there were very few undead beings and magical beasts present.

The main issue was the lack of vegetation. The area where Zhao Zui and his companions were active could simply be described as an enormous mud pit. The undead beings there had to exert a great deal of effort to move, making their speed quite slow.

It could be said that what Zhao Zui and his group were currently experiencing was merely the first layer of challenges in the Corpse Swamp. Fortunately, the undead beings accompanying Zhao Zui were originally from the Corpse Swamp. Although they had been collected by Zhao Hai, they did not forget their past like Zhao Qian did. These undead beings were quite familiar with the environment of the Corpse Swamp, so while moving was somewhat laborious, they did not encounter much trouble.

These undead beings had lived in the Corpse Swamp, making it instinctual for them to navigate its terrain. They were born, grew, and died there, and after dying, they returned to life in the same place. The Corpse Swamp was indeed their home, one they had known for a lifetime.

This is precisely what made the Corpse Swamp formidable; it could transform living beings that died there into undead beings and gradually upgrade them. Such power was unique to the Corpse Swamp; even the Demon Abyss lacked this capability. People believed that the undead beings there were sourced from the demon realm.

It was precisely because the Corpse Swamp could continuously produce undead beings that it grew ever stronger. Thousands of years ago, there were tales of individuals who managed to exit the Corpse Swamp alive, but now, no one dared venture into it.

Because of this, Zhao Hai warned Zhao Zui and the others to exercise caution; it was better to thoroughly explore the path than to provoke any trouble.
