CHAPTER EIGHTY-NINE: Trivial Matters
Green represents hope. When Zhao Hai and Merlin saw the green seedlings, their hearts were filled with optimism. Although those green seedlings did not grow well, they symbolized a tenacious spirit. They managed to emerge from the ground even under the cover of toxic bird droppings, which was an impressive feat in itself.
Zhao Hai and Merlin both bent down and gently touched a seedling. The seedling did appear somewhat malnourished, and even if it grew up, it would not yield much grain. However, to be honest, Zhao Hai and the others weren’t particularly worried about that grain right now.
Zhao Hai slowly stood up, glanced at Merlin beside him, and smiled, "Grandma Merlin, the fact that these seedlings can still grow is beyond my expectations. Now, let's water them with Spatial Water and see if we can help them grow a bit better."
Merlin nodded, stood up, and walked to Zhao Hai's side. Zhao Hai waved the Evil Spirit Wand in his hand forward and commanded, "Water!"
He knew that the Evil Spirit Wand could harness all the functions of the space, so this time, he only needed the wand to release Spatial Water.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished speaking, a prompt from the space immediately followed: "The portable space has detected contaminated land ahead. Would you like to improve it?"
Zhao Hai was taken aback and had to reply, "Yes." The space quickly sent another prompt: "Please select the area to be improved." Then a screen appeared in front of him, displaying a range of numbers from ten to one hundred, with the unit being acres.
This surprised Zhao Hai. He really did not expect that the space could now improve so much land at once. The number one hundred represented that he could improve up to one hundred acres at a time, which was ten times what it used to be. It seemed this was another benefit brought by the space upgrade.
Zhao Hai immediately selected one hundred acres, and as soon as he made the selection, a stream of clear water surged out from his wand. This stream slowly ascended into the sky and then, like raindrops, fell from the space, soaking the land before him and simultaneously changing its color.
Merlin also noticed this, but she already knew that Zhao Hai's Spatial Water could improve the land, so she was not too surprised. However, she did find it unusual that the area of land improved this time seemed a bit large, greatly exceeding the ten acres Zhao Hai had mentioned before.
Merlin looked in confusion at the increasing amount of land being moistened until she could no longer see the end. She turned to Zhao Hai and asked, "Young master, what’s going on with this water?"
Zhao Hai smiled back at her, "It's nothing. Since the space upgrade, the area that can be improved has increased. Now we can improve one hundred acres every day."
Merlin's face lit up with joy, "That's great! In just about ten days, we can improve the land here. Although it's a bit late in the season, it shouldn’t be too late. We can still plant something."
Zhao Hai nodded. To be honest, improving one hundred acres of land a day was undoubtedly a good thing for him. Not to mention other considerations, just the land in this valley could be utilized well.
However, Zhao Hai had already decided that he wanted to plant corn on this one thousand acres of land, which would alleviate the feed problem for the ranch.
Their ranch could support one thousand animals, and those one thousand animals would consume a significant amount of feed every day. While there was a good stock of supplies in the space, it wasn’t too much, so Zhao Hai planned to store even more.
Currently, Zhao Hai had plenty of grain, so he wasn’t worried about the food issue. Here, he would first plant a season of corn. By the time the corn was harvested, it was likely that the weather would turn cold, making it impossible to plant anything else. By next year, Zhao Hai planned to grow bamboo rice here, which has a high yield. After the space improvement, the yield would certainly be even higher, slowly becoming their main food source.
