CHAPTER 80: Upgrading Undead Beings

After filling their stomachs, Galen and the others settled the bill and left. While paying, Galen paid close attention to the attitude of the restaurant staff.

He hoped to glean some clues from their expressions. If the staff knew about the poisoning incident, they would surely show signs of it.

However, Galen was disappointed. The waitstaff behaved very calmly, showing no signs of anything amiss, even when Galen tipped them, they appeared composed.

Not finding anything suspicious didn't overly disappoint Galen. After leaving the restaurant with Zhao Hai, they headed straight for the outskirts of the city. They had finished their business in the city, and staying longer had no significance.

The main reason for their haste was that Galen and the others wanted to go fishing. They believed that whoever had poisoned them would come to check the results. After all, poisoning a dark mage is inherently a very dangerous act, as dark mages are usually experts in poison, and ordinary toxins have little effect on them.

Because of this, Galen and the others were confident that the perpetrator would come to see if they were indeed poisoned. If they stayed in the city, it would be difficult for them to act. In a large city like Casa City, any reckless action could attract the displeasure of the Versailles Family, who might intervene.

Galen and the others did not wish to conflict with the Versailles Family just yet, but they also would not let the person who dared to poison them go unpunished.

Once out of the city, Zhao Hai immediately released the Alien, looking eager to rush to Rubble Mountain. They had less than two hours before the poison would take effect.

Zhao Hai was carefully calculating the time while controlling the Alien's speed, ensuring it would appear to be poisoned once they reached the mountainous area.

So far, they had not noticed any enemies following them, but Galen was sure someone was tracking them. Those trained death warriors from powerful families or factions are not so easily detected.

When Zhao Hai and the others exited Casa City, it was already past two in the afternoon. In just over two hours, it would soon be around four, and since it was spring, the sky would not darken as early as in winter. During this time, it was still quite bright, which was exactly the time Zhao Hai had allocated for their adversaries.

Although the darkness would benefit Zhao Hai and the others more, the poison did not grant them that much time. Therefore, they decided to act in the mountainous region, where they would not attract attention from others.

Their actions were no different from when they came. To outsiders, Zhao Hai and the others simply entered Casa City, registered as mages, and then left, trying to return home before dark—nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Two hours can be quite tedious for travelers, but fortunately, Zhao Hai and the others had gotten used to it these days. They had been on the road for a while, and this time they had something to do, so they did not find the two hours particularly difficult.

After calculating the time, Zhao Hai felt it was about time. He turned to Galen and said, “Grandpa Galen, it’s almost time.”

Galen looked around at their surroundings. They had now arrived in the mountains. Although there was a road here, it clearly had not seen much traffic, especially at this hour. It was almost dark, and the gates of Casa City closed at six in the evening, meaning no one would be rushing towards the city now, and they would miss the time to enter.

Galen nodded, “Alright, let’s act.”

Zhao Hai nodded and gradually slowed the Alien down, then suddenly stored it away. The group fell to the ground, motionless, as if they had fainted.

They lay on the ground for more than half an hour without stirring, but Zhao Hai had anticipated this, so the three of them remained still, quietly lying there.

Fortunately, it wasn’t cold at this time, and they were lying in a place with tall grass, so they didn’t feel chilly. However, lying still for so long was indeed uncomfortable.
