Chapter 53: The Possible Truth of the Truth

Zhao Hai slammed his fist on the ground and said solemnly, “Why is this happening? Have our previous efforts all been in vain?”

Galen patted Zhao Hai's shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, young master. We will find a way to solve this problem.”

Zhao Hai's expression remained grim as he touched the ground beneath him and said, “No, you don’t understand. This vast expanse of land, it looks like it can’t be cultivated. I had already planned to improve the soil here and slowly turn this place into a granary for the continent, but unfortunately, it seems this plan can’t be realized.”

Zhao Hai stood up with a slap of his hands, his face filled with frustration. This blow was truly too much for him. There was no way he could transform such a large area of land in a short time. If those magical beasts appeared again before he could finish the transformation, all his efforts would be wasted. Even if he completed the transformation, the appearance of those magical beasts would render everything useless.

Galen and the others didn’t know how to comfort Zhao Hai. They understood his feelings; no one would feel good facing such a situation.

Zhao Hai looked at the Black Earth Wilderness once more, sighed, and turned to walk up the mountain. After taking two steps, he stopped again and murmured, “Something’s not right. This doesn’t add up.”

Merlin and Galen, who had just turned to follow him, exchanged confused glances. Galen asked, “Young master, what’s wrong?”

Zhao Hai pointed to the mountain and said, “Grandpa Galen, what do you see up there?”

Galen glanced at the mountain, furrowing his brow and replied, “Nothing. Just some weeds. Weeds? Wait, why are there weeds on that mountain? If the black soil here in the Black Earth Wilderness has changed due to the toxins from those magical beasts, then why is the soil on the mountain unaffected? This doesn’t make sense.”

Merlin also began to understand. She looked at the flattened weeds on the mountain, realizing that they were quite resilient. Although trampled by the magical beasts, after a few days of recovery, they had sprouted some green again, demonstrating a strong vitality.

When the magical beasts retreated, they didn’t leave in a big rush as they had come; instead, they scattered. Thus, the damage to the grass on the mountain wasn’t too severe, and the weeds had recovered quite a bit.

It was precisely these resilient weeds that made Zhao Hai notice something was off. If the Black Earth Wilderness was indeed contaminated by the toxins from the magical beasts, then the mountain should have been affected too, considering that those magical beasts had crawled down from there.

Zhao Hai suddenly turned around and gazed at the black soil, murmuring, “No, it can’t be because of their toxins. What could it be? What could it be?”

Galen and Merlin also turned to look at the black soil, both puzzled about the situation. Initially, Merlin thought her deduction was correct, but upon seeing the weeds on the mountain, she realized she was mistaken.

Zhao Hai kept pacing in circles on the ground, unable to understand why the area had become like this. Gradually, he found himself at the edge of the moat, where he unconsciously stopped, staring blankly at the light green water.

Seeing Zhao Hai standing by the moat without moving, Merlin and Galen grew a bit anxious and approached him, genuinely worried that something might happen to him.

Suddenly, Zhao Hai slapped his hands together and exclaimed, “I got it! I figured it out!”

Galen was taken aback, “Young master, what did you figure out?”

Zhao Hai pointed at the river water and said, “This water has been flowing continuously, yet it remains light green. This means that the water from the lake in the mountains has also been contaminated by the magical beasts. But why would those beasts go there? There’s nothing to eat there. I think they must have gone to the lake for some reason, most likely to wash.”
