CHAPTER 379: Strange Tree
Inside the tree hole, there were piles of dry grass. However, it was evident that these piles weren’t just thrown around haphazardly. The first pile of grass looked like the bedroom of a gorilla, and there was not a hint of a strange smell in the tree hole. It appeared very clean.
This tree hole didn’t seem very large, only about twenty square meters, but on either side, there were small holes, which were also gorilla bedrooms. Currently, some small black gorillas and several female gorillas were present in the tree hole.
It was like an enlarged anthill, except the inhabitants were a group of powerful gorillas. Zhao Hai estimated that there were nearly a thousand gorillas just in this tree hole, demonstrating the strength of this group.
Zhao Hai looked up and found that the tree hole was probably hundreds of meters high. The walls on both sides were filled with these gorilla bedrooms, and it looked quite spectacular.
Seeing this situation, Laura couldn’t help but exclaim, “Oh my, this is truly magnificent! Brother Hai, did you see? It’s like a little city here!”
Of course, it wasn’t as exaggerated as Laura described, but it was indeed very impressive. One could say that this tree was the capital and residence of Little Gold and their strange tribe, and this island might be their territory.
Little Gold called out a few times, and several large gorillas came over to remove the dry grass from the ground. The ground looked very clean, and Zhao Hai could see the faint wood grain beneath.
Little Gold jumped down from Zhao Hai’s shoulders, squeaking a few times. The large gorillas placed Zhao Hai and the others inside the tree hole and then walked out, leaving only a few small gorillas that were crawling around.
To be honest, these small gorillas didn’t look as cute as Little Gold, but their clumsy appearance still made Laura and the others’ eyes shine. Women always have a low immunity to cute things.
Little Gold didn’t pay any attention to those small gorillas, allowing them to crawl all over the place, while Zhao Hai was somewhat puzzled about what Little Gold intended to do.
At that moment, several silver gorillas entered, holding breadfruits and placing them in front of Zhao Hai and the others. A few gorillas even carried large shells, which contained some liquid, and what puzzled Zhao Hai was that this liquid emitted a smell of alcohol.
Little Gold called out a few more times and brought a breadfruit to Zhao Hai. Zhao Hai understood Little Gold’s intention; he was inviting him to eat the fruit.
Zhao Hai took the basketball-sized breadfruit and found its skin to be quite hard. He forcefully knocked the fruit on the ground, opening the skin and revealing the white pulp inside.
What surprised Zhao Hai was that the moment the pulp met the air, it quickly expanded and emitted a bread-like aroma.
Zhao Hai paused for a moment, put the piece in his mouth, and took a bite. The pulp became very soft and tasted just like bread, which astonished him greatly.
Zhao Hai had heard of breadfruit on Earth; it was a high-yield grain tree. However, their fruits seemed to require baking to taste good. But this fruit didn’t need baking; it expanded on its own upon being opened and resembled bread. A fruit this large could probably last him for a day.
Laura and the others watched Zhao Hai’s actions in daze. It was their first time hearing about such a fruit, and just then, Little Gold called out a few times, pointing at the shells on the ground.
Curiously, Zhao Hai picked up one of the shells and took a sip of the liquid inside. It was slightly sour, but what puzzled him was that this liquid had a beer flavor—far too strange.
Zhao Hai had never brewed beer; no one on the mainland did either. Initially, he thought he could only make beer through extensive trial and error. But who would have thought that on such an island, a group of gorillas would present him with a liquid resembling beer? This was truly astonishing.
