CHAPTER 28: Horse Bone
Zhao Hai was very clear that his space had no offensive capabilities, not even active defense. Its only function, apart from growing vegetables, was to serve as a place to hide.
He really didn't have much confidence in using his space to deal with the Corpse Swamp. Let's not forget that the Corpse Swamp was one of the five forbidden areas of the continent, and it was filled with undead creatures and poisonous magical beasts. How could he use his space, which lacked offensive power, to confront the dangers of the Corpse Swamp?
Time passed unknowingly, and Zhao Hai couldn't come up with a good plan. In the end, he decided that if the magical beasts from the Corpse Swamp came out, they would first rely on the castle to fight them. If that didn't work, he would have to take everyone into the space. After all, there were over ten acres of land in the space, which could definitely accommodate these people.
Just then, Zhao Hai suddenly heard a commotion outside. He looked up and noticed it was almost noon; the slaves should be returning for their meals.
As Zhao Hai stood up to check outside, he saw Meg, Wood, and Stone quickly entering the room. The three of them immediately greeted him upon seeing Zhao Hai, bowing slightly and saying, âYoung master.â
Zhao Hai nodded and smiled at the three of them, saying, âYou guys arrange for those corn stalks and cobs in the open space outside to be used for firewood. If those slaves feel cold at night, let them use those to warm up.â
Meg looked at Zhao Hai in confusion and asked, âYoung master, what is corn?â
Zhao Hai smiled and replied, âCorn is the main crop we will plant in the future. It can yield over two thousand pounds per acre. The corn stalks and cobs can also be used for firewood. I've already discussed this with Grandma Merlin, and we will be planting corn from now on.â
Meg's eyes lit up as she looked at Zhao Hai and asked, âYoung master, is the yield of corn really that high?â
Zhao Hai nodded with a smile, âYes, it really is. Alright, go arrange for them to eat. Grandma Merlin will have the food ready soon. Once youâve arranged everything, come back to have lunch; I have something to discuss.â The three nodded and turned to head to the Outer Fortress.
At that moment, Merlin also walked out from the house. Having heard the noise outside, she glanced out but didnât pay it much mind. She understood Meg very well and knew she could handle things outside. Turning to Zhao Hai, she said, âYoung master, come have lunch; the food is ready.â
Zhao Hai nodded and followed Merlin to the dining room. While Merlin went to the kitchen to serve the food, Zhao Hai sat there in a daze, realizing he seemed to be getting lazier. Back on Earth, he had to prepare his own meals three times a day and clean his room; every household chore was done by himself.
Now, in the Ark Continent, he was a young master. If he wanted, he wouldn't even need to dress himself and definitely wouldnât have to do any housework. Honestly, this habit was a terrible thing. In just a few days, Zhao Hai had already gotten used to having others serve him.
Lost in thought, Merlin returned with a tray. The food they were having was still very simple: bread, vegetables, and some meat, which was only given to Zhao Hai; Wood and Stone didnât receive any.
Although the food was simple, Zhao Hai could see the care Merlin had for him. In the entire castle, everything he used was the best, and the food he ate was also the best. The entire castle revolved around him. This feeling made Zhao Hai very grateful but also brought a lot of pressure.
He wasn't a wastrel like Adam Buddha; he was a responsible man. The better Merlin and the others treated him, the more pressure he felt. These people lived centered around him, meaning their survival depended on him. Although the Budah family had fallen on hard times, as long as he was alive, the Budah family would exist, and these people could avoid being bullied by other nobles. Perhaps that was enough for Merlin and the others.
