Chapter 192: Soul-eating Blood Mosquito
Things did not go as smoothly as Zhao Hai and the others had imagined. The day after Zhao Hai discussed plans, the phantom beasts known as flying eagles were attacked.
When Zhao Hai received the news, he was at Iron Mountain Fortress. Although there wasn’t much going on there now, Zhao Hai would still visit from time to time. After all, in addition to the land, they also raised quite a few Blue-eyed Rabbits.
Aside from farming, taking care of the Blue-eyed Rabbits, and cleaning the castle, there was a lot of work to be done. With such a large castle, it would be unmanageable if it wasn’t cleaned.
When Zhao En sent the message, Zhao Hai was observing the Blue-eyed Rabbits. The ones in the mine were growing well, with some nearly mature, thanks to the careful care from the female slaves.
As soon as Zhao Hai heard Zhao En's message, he and the others entered the space. Upon entering the living room and looking at the screen, they found that this time, the attackers of the flying eagles were a swarm of magical insects.
These magical insects could indeed fly, though typically at low altitudes. However, this time, the insects attacking the flying eagles were an exception, flying as high as the birds themselves.
Zhao Hai couldn't help but take a closer look at the insects. Each one was about the size of a human palm, with a mouthpart extending as long as its body, resembling an enlarged mosquito.
These insects were entirely red and looked quite fierce. The most terrifying aspect was their sheer number, estimated to be in the tens of millions to hundreds of millions, overwhelming everything in sight.
What surprised Zhao Hai the most was that these mosquito-like insects had a surprisingly strong attack power; already, three flying eagles had been drained of blood and fell from the sky.
Zhao Hai stared at the insects before turning to Galen and asking, “Grandpa Galen, do you recognize these mosquitoes? Why aren’t they listed in the magical beast encyclopedia Miss Laura sent?”
Galen shook his head, “I’ve never seen them before. These mosquitoes have such strong attack power and are red in color. They resemble poisonous fire mosquitoes, but their attack power and size are far greater. It’s strange.”
Zhao Hai nodded, “I’ve seen the introduction of poisonous fire mosquitoes, and they are different from these. Poisonous fire mosquitoes can only fly up to about a hundred meters high, but look at these mosquitoes—they can fly as high as birds. That’s incredibly strong.”
Galen nodded. Just then, another flying eagle fell to the ground, leaving only the one with the Evil Spirit Staff.
Zhao Hai thought for a moment and said, “Release the insecticide.” This wasn’t directed at Galen but rather at the Evil Spirit Staff. As soon as he spoke, a green light flashed on the staff, and a cloud of green smoke emerged, enveloping the insects.
However, to Zhao Hai's surprise, the mosquitoes surrounded by the insecticide continued to attack the flying eagles as if it had no effect on them at all.
Zhao Hai was taken aback but quickly exclaimed, “Earth Shield.” As soon as his words left his mouth, a layer of earthy yellow shield appeared around the flying eagle, blocking the insects. Only then did Zhao Hai breathe a sigh of relief.
While he was puzzled about why the mosquitoes were unaffected by the insecticide, Galen suddenly cried out. Zhao Hai quickly looked at the screen and was shocked to see a thick layer of mosquitoes clinging to the earthy yellow shield, which was visibly thinning.
Zhao Hai's expression changed; he knew what this meant. It indicated that the mosquitoes were draining the magical energy from the Earth Shield, causing it to weaken.
These mosquitoes could absorb magical energy? What kind of species were they? How had he never heard of them before?
Galen's face changed, “Soul-eating Blood Mosquito! These are Soul-eating Blood Mosquitoes!”
Zhao Hai was stunned, and then his face shifted as he finally remembered these mosquitoes. They were merely mentioned in the magical beast encyclopedia Laura had given him, but that didn’t mean they weren’t formidable. On the contrary, these mosquitoes were incredibly powerful, but there were few records about them, hence their brief mention. In the book, the threat level of these mosquitoes was comparable to that of some eighth-level magical beasts.
