Chapter 190: Warning, Threat
When Laura descended from Rubble Mountain, she was followed not only by her guards but also by two hundred and eight undead beings. Apart from the eight mages, all of them were warriors, and their speed was impressive, racing behind Laura and her group, matching the pace of their horses effortlessly.
However, Laura paid no attention to the undead beings. She was engrossed in the marriage certificate design that Zhao Hai had given her. Making this marriage certificate was quite simple; it just needed to be made of thicker, sturdier paper, in red, with golden text printed on it. The format was straightforward, with not many words, yet Laura stared at it in a daze for quite a while.
Ni'er looked at Laura in confusion, truly not understanding what was so fascinating about a piece of paper. She had seen what was on it, and it was quite simple, nothing extraordinary.
Ni'er didn't grasp it, but Laura understood very well that although this piece of paper represented nothing in itself, the content on it represented a great deal.
Marriage certificates had never appeared on the continent before. People only considered their marriage complete once the ceremony was done. Although there were marriage contracts, they were only for engagements; there was nothing after the marriage.
Zhao Hai’s marriage certificate would prove that the two were legally married. Moreover, if the two could not get along, they could take this certificate to Zhao Hai to get a divorce. Once divorced, they would no longer be husband and wife.
In the past, Laura would have thought this certificate was of no use. Zhao Hai wouldn’t enforce monogamy, so what was the point of having such a document? But when Zhao Hai placed this marriage certificate in her hands, she realized she was overthinking it.
Ni'er could no longer hold back and waved her hand at Laura, saying, "Miss, are you done looking? You've been staring at it since we came down from Rubble Mountain; it’s been over an hour!"
Laura snapped back to reality, her face flushing as she hurriedly put away the design. She looked at Ni'er and asked, "Ni'er, why do you think Brother Hai gave me this design?"
Ni'er, not being naive, quickly understood Laura's implication. She looked at Laura with a teasing expression and said, "Miss, you’re not harboring feelings, are you? Calling him Brother Hai and all. Just because the sir asked you to call him that, you really do call him Brother Hai. How shameless!"
Laura and Ni'er had shared a bond for quite some time, and only Ni'er could speak to Laura like this. Laura wasn’t angry; instead, she blushed and replied, "You little brat, if I really married Brother Hai, how would you escape? Your adorable looks would surely win his favor!"
The two began to laugh and joke, and it wasn’t long before they arrived outside Casa City. The guards at the city gate were surprised to see Laura return with so many undead beings, but they had received Ivan's orders, so they did not stop her and let her pass.
Laura’s actions stirred quite a commotion in Casa City. It was rare to see someone brazenly parading a large group of undead beings down the street.
All the way, they were observed by onlookers, but fortunately, people on the continent understood that dark mages could control skeletons, so no one felt scared.
Laura's boldness in leading the undead into the city was intentional. She believed Carlo already knew that those who attacked her had died. Although Carlo was arrogant, he wasn’t foolish, and he wouldn’t only have sent two lines of spies; there must be more lurking.
By bringing back so many undead beings, the spies would quickly understand that Laura had completely aligned with Zhao Hai. Moreover, that the guards at Casa City allowed them in also signified that the Versailles Family stood with them. This was essentially a demonstration of power.
Before long, the carriage arrived at Xin Manor. It wasn’t particularly large, and the arrival of over two hundred undead beings made it feel cramped. However, Kun Zheng had received the news earlier and had made some arrangements.
