CHAPTER 189: Brother Hai?
Galen appeared very happy, laughing heartily, âGood, great! From now on, just call me Grandpa Galen, hahaha!â
Zhao Hai felt utterly speechless as he patted his head. He wasnât a fool and naturally understood why Galen was so pleased. Laura calling Galen âGrandpaâ implied she had feelings for him, which was precisely what made Galen the happiest.
Zhao Hai could see this, and the others could too. Laura's face turned even redder, while Ni'er giggled on the side. Meg, who should have been a bit angry, surprisingly wasnât upset at all.
Megâs life was very simple; she was a member of the Budah family, existing solely for the Budah family. Although she liked Zhao Hai, she understood that he could not marry just her. Not only would Galen and the others not agree, but even she wouldnât.
The Budah family currently needed many heirs to ensure its continuity, so Zhao Hai was destined to have multiple wives in the future.
When Laura displayed such behavior after learning about Zhao Hai's identity, it earned her Meg's goodwill. After all, the Budah family was currently an enemy of the Aksu Empire; if anyone found out about her connection to the Budah family, Laura would not face a good outcome.
Moreover, due to the recent events concerning Zhao Hai, Laura had officially fallen out with the Majidel family, which further increased Meg's favorable impression of her. Through these interactions, Meg also discovered that Laura was a kind person, friendly to others, making her a good young mistress to have.
Meanwhile, Zhao Hai felt a sense of helplessness, wondering when his charm had become so great that even his idol would take a liking to him so easily. This was truly not part of his plan.
Zhao Hai, with his introverted personality, hated change; he disliked situations that were beyond his control. And Laura was definitely one of those situations, leaving Zhao Hai uncertain about how to respond.
At that moment, Merlin walked in. Upon seeing Galen and Zhao Hai revealing their true selves, her expression changed as she asked, âGalen, young master, whatâs going on?â
Zhao Hai introduced Laura, saying, âMiss Laura, this is Grandma Merlin.â
Laura immediately stood up and bowed to Merlin, âNice to meet you, Grandma Merlin. Donât worry; I wonât betray the Budah family.â
Merlin glanced at Zhao Hai, who wore a calm expression, and at the smiling Galen. Understanding Galenâs meaning, her eyes lit up as she looked at Laura, âGood, good! Miss Laura, youâre too polite. By the way, I made your favorite firefly fish today. Letâs go eat!â Without waiting for Zhao Hai, she grabbed Laura and headed to the dining room.
Laura's face reddened again; she struggled to endure Merlin's flirtatious gaze but felt helpless.
Zhao Hai helplessly stood up and followed Galen, who had a beaming smile, to the dining room. Once seated, Merlin brought out the dishes, including four firefly fish, Laura's favorite.
During the meal, not only was Merlin constantly encouraging Laura to eat, but even Meg joined in. Laura noticed the change in Megâs attitude but couldnât quite understand why. In her mind, Meg should have hated her more; why did it seem as if she had completely let go of her resentment?
Zhao Hai ate the meal in silence. When the group returned to the living room, Laura turned serious and said, âSir, I came here today with another request. Although I wonât have problems in Casa City, once I leave, I will be in danger. I hope you wonât find it silly, but I really donât have enough power to guarantee my safety, so I want to take some people back with me. Is that okay?â
After this meal, Zhao Hai realized he needed to be open-minded. He still needed to see how things would develop with Laura. It would be unrealistic to say he had no feelings for her at all; his idol was now someone he could pursue. If he didnât go after her, it would be a disservice to himself.
Letting go of his mental block, Zhao Hai became more relaxed. He smiled and said, âCall me Zhao Hai or Brother Hai; I think Iâm a bit older than you, right? Bringing people is no problem, but you know those are undead beings and wonât cause you trouble, right?â
