CHAPTER 167: Bio-Beasts? Little Chickens?

Laura sat in her carriage, carefully examining the magic peach pit in her hand.

She simply couldn't find anything special about it; it looked just like a round iron ball, except for a small white dot on it.

Ni'er looked closely at the small ball, and to be honest, if Zhao Hai had not ever lied to them, she would really have trouble believing that such a thing existed on the continent.

After a long while, Laura finally put away the magic peach pit, sighed, and glanced at Ni'er, smiling as she said, “What’s wrong? Are you surprised?”

Ni'er nodded, saying, “Yeah, I didn’t expect such a thing to really exist. Miss, what do you think Mr. Zhao Hai’s identity is? How can he casually gift an ancient magical item?”

Laura sighed, “I honestly don’t know what Mr. Zhao Hai’s background is. I’ve never heard of anyone like him on the continent. Normally, someone like him would be famous, but it’s strange; no one has ever mentioned someone like him before. Isn’t that odd?”

Ni'er furrowed her brows and asked, “What do you mean, Miss?”

Laura shook her head, “I can’t even say. There’s too much about Mr. Zhao Hai that we don’t know, and I don’t want to inquire too deeply; that would be disrespectful to him. Anyway, regardless of everything, Mr. Zhao Hai is our ally now. As long as we do what he instructs and help the Blood Lotus Shop expand throughout the entire Versailles Principality, that will be enough.”

At this, Ni'er couldn’t help but smile. She turned to Laura and said, “Miss, our shop has almost reached every corner of the Versailles Principality now. Does that mean the family won’t come looking for trouble with us anymore?”

Ni'er was Laura’s maid, and servants like her typically accompanied their mistresses when they married. Therefore, Ni'er cared deeply about Laura’s future. Of course, there were exceptions—if Laura were to marry before Ni'er, then Ni'er wouldn’t have to be a maid anymore.

However, such situations were rare. Girls like Ni'er were either sold by their owners or were born into servitude. For a daughter of a noble family, having a maid from her own family was reassuring and could serve as assistance; how could they give up such a person?

Laura looked at Ni'er and smiled bitterly, “My silly Ni'er, you’re thinking too simply. Don’t be fooled by our current situation; to the people in our family, we’re still nothing. We just have a little bargaining power for negotiations now. After all, the situation we’re in at Versailles is something we created ourselves. They can’t justify trying to harm us.”

Ni'er sighed in relief, saying, “That’s good, Miss. How about considering Mr. Zhao Hai? He’s so capable, has a good temper, and kind-hearted; he will definitely treat you well in the future.”

Laura looked at Ni'er and laughed, “Little girl, do you have a crush on Mr. Zhao Hai? Is that why you want me to marry him?”

Ni'er’s face turned red, and she exclaimed, “Not at all! Miss, you’re just making things up.”

Laura laughed lightly and said, “Little girl, things won’t be that simple. The power around Mr. Zhao Hai is so strong, and he possesses so many good things, yet he still doesn’t dare to show his true self. This indicates that he must be a very powerful enemy, powerful enough that even with his strength, he wouldn’t dare to engage lightly. If I truly married Mr. Zhao Hai, it might be even more dangerous than now.”

Ni'er was taken aback, then looked at Laura and giggled, “So, Miss has thought about marrying Mr. Zhao Hai? Hehe, you said you hadn’t thought about it; you’re lying.”

Laura shot Ni'er a glance but didn’t say anything further. She didn’t know why, but she really had thought about this question. Perhaps hearing Ni'er mention these things so often lately had affected her thoughts.

Zhao Hai, on the other hand, didn’t have time to think about what Laura was considering. To be honest, he was feeling a bit anxious waiting. Calculating the time, Buffy had entered the Corpse Swamp for over a month now and still hadn’t come out. Not to mention the food and water, Zhao Hai genuinely couldn’t understand how Buffy was surviving in there. After all, nearly all the plants inside were toxic; how had he managed for over a month? Could he really go without food and water? There was no indication that a ninth-level expert could do that.
