CHAPTER 156: Waiting

After circulating his fighting spirit for a while, Galen found that his injuries had miraculously healed. He opened his eyes and saw Merlin and the others standing in front of him with worried expressions. He couldn't help but smile slightly, saying, "Good stuff, my injuries are all healed now."

Merlin and the others simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief, with Merlin saying, "Really all healed? You were seriously injured."

Galen nodded, "It's really all healed. This magic peach is truly amazing; it seems I should save the others for later."

Zhao Hai and the others couldn't help but laugh. Galen stood up from the bed and looked at everyone, asking, "Young master, how are those slaves arranged? Now that they've returned to the space, they must be feeling a bit out of place, right?"

Zhao Hai nodded. Those slaves had become accustomed to life outside the space, where they had their own rooms and meager possessions, all of which they cherished. Now that they were back in the space, their mood was somewhat low.

Galen said coldly, "Versailles Family, just wait! One day, I will return what you owe us."

Zhao Hai and the others had expressions of hatred on their faces. The Versailles Family had gone too far this time; they had actually hired a ninth-level expert to deal with them and wanted to eradicate them completely.

What they didn't know was that the Versailles Family was now even more troubled, especially Caesar. He never expected that hiring a ninth-level expert would still allow Galen to escape. If Buffy had killed Galen and the others this time, it would have been fine, but if he couldn't kill them, the Versailles Family would be in trouble.

Although Buffy had injured Galen, making it impossible for him to remain an eighth-level expert, Merlin was still there, and he was an eighth-level mage.

If Merlin came directly to confront the Versailles Family, they wouldn't be afraid, but they dreaded that Merlin might strike from the shadows. The Versailles Family also had many businesses on the continent and caravans, and they sent some family members out for training every year. If Merlin truly sought revenge, he would target these individuals, resulting in significant losses. They couldn’t send eighth-level experts to protect them; they simply didn’t have that many.

Caesar was getting increasingly frustrated. This plan was his idea, and it was now half a failure. If Buffy could have killed Merlin and the others, it would have been fine. If he couldn't, then his plan would be a complete failure.

Buffy also found the situation quite tricky. After arriving at Iron Mountain Fortress, he discovered that there was no one there. He wandered around Iron Mountain but still didn’t find anyone, which puzzled him significantly.

Ninth-level experts have a habit: whenever they go somewhere, they like to use their spiritual sense to probe the area.

Spiritual sense is unique to ninth-level experts. Whether warrior or mage, upon reaching the ninth level, they develop spiritual sense. Before reaching ninth level, individuals can at most do internal observation, checking on their own condition. Upon reaching ninth level, they can extend their spiritual sense outward to detect things. Generally, a ninth-level expert can cover a radius of one kilometer with their spiritual sense, while a ninth-level mage can often extend it to about three kilometers.

When Buffy arrived at Iron Mountain Fortress, he used his spiritual sense to scan the area, but of course, he found nothing. He then checked inside the fortress and confirmed there was indeed no one.

If he were a mercenary, he might deduce from the thickness of the dust in the fortress that Zhao Hai and the others had just left not long ago, but Buffy didn’t understand these signs. His life had been spent on killing rather than understanding such details. He usually relied on intelligence provided by his family; he would just show up and finish the job. Therefore, he didn’t grasp these subtleties. Seeing no one at the Iron Fortress, he flew up to search Iron Mountain.
