Chapter 11: Arrangements
Galen had lived his entire life in the Imperial Capital; he had seen all kinds of grand occasions. He quickly regained his composure and, instead of looking at the items on the table, stared at Zhao Hai with shining eyes, “Young master, can you use magic now?”
Zhao Hai shook his head and said, “I can’t use magic, as you know. Anyone who drinks Void Water cannot use magic. This is just a kind of ability; it has no offensive properties and can only allow me to store a bit of something.”
Galen nodded, feeling slightly disappointed. He then turned his attention to the table and was momentarily stunned when he saw the radish. He quickly picked it up, examined it closely, sniffed it, and even took a bite. After nodding, he placed the radish back on the table and said to Zhao Hai, “Young master, this is a magic radish. It’s a very common magic vegetable.”
Zhao Hai was taken aback, “What magic vegetable? Are there other kinds of vegetables?”
Galen nodded, “Yes, young master. Vegetables on the Ark Continent are divided into two types: ordinary vegetables, which are typically eaten by commoners or slaves, and magic vegetables, which nobles usually eat. These vegetables contain some magical energy and can only grow in particularly good soil with careful tending. The magic radish is one such magic vegetable, though it is the most common. Its current market price is about one silver coin per pound.”
Zhao Hai quickly calculated in his mind that he currently had eighty thousand pounds of radish. At one silver coin per pound, that amounts to eighty thousand silver coins. Converted to gold coins, that's eight thousand gold coins, which is much better than what he could buy for his space. Buying for the space only cost five hundred gold coins, which is equivalent to just over six copper coins per pound. Comparing the purchasing power of this world to that of Earth, it means if he sold these radishes to the space, it would only cost him about sixty cents per pound, while selling to the people here could fetch ten dollars per pound, a difference of nearly twenty times. Even a fool would know how to make this trade.
At that moment, Galen picked up the radish again and said, “However, this magic radish is a bit strange. I’ve never seen such a large magic radish on the continent, and its flavor is much stronger than regular magic radishes. Young master, where did you get this?”
Zhao Hai did not answer him directly but continued, “Can the Blue-eyed Rabbit eat this radish’s leaves? When we buy magic radishes, do we buy the leaves too?”
Galen shook his head, “If we buy this magic radish, we wouldn’t want the leaves. The leaves don't taste very good, but they're a favorite food of the Blue-eyed Rabbit. Why are you asking about this, young master?”
Zhao Hai stood up excitedly and walked around in circles, “Heaven hasn’t abandoned me! Heaven hasn’t abandoned me! This is great! With this, I can build a ranch!”
Galen looked at Zhao Hai in fear, not understanding what was happening. He thought Zhao Hai had gone mad and hurriedly asked, “Young master, what’s wrong? Please don’t scare this old servant!”
Zhao Hai snapped back to reality, laughed heartily, and said, “Don’t be afraid, Grandpa Galen! I’m just very happy. By the way, Grandpa Galen, I want to ask you, are magic radishes easy to buy?”
Galen, relieved that Zhao Hai was okay, nodded quickly, “Yes, they’re easy to buy. There aren’t many wars on the continent right now, and people's incomes are relatively high. Many commoners buy some magic vegetables to eat, and magic radish is the cheapest kind of magic vegetable, so many people buy it.”
Zhao Hai nodded, sat down, and motioned for Galen to sit as well. “Grandpa Galen, I currently have eighty thousand pounds of this magic radish. You need to find a way to sell it. The price can be a bit lower, but it must be sold quickly. Then, buy as many Blue-eyed Rabbits as possible. There are many abandoned dwarf mines on this mountain where we can convert those mines into burrows for the Blue-eyed Rabbits. This way, we’ll have a steady income in the future.”
