Chapter 141: Entangled Grudges, Undying and Unresting [Sixth Update!]
When they set off again, Bao Buhuan was still lying in the carriage, with two empty horses slowly pulling the cart, moving at a pace comparable to that of an ox.
Wanrenjie, Cheng Duying, Chu Yang, and Chu Le'er walked together. Their expressions had softened considerably, with laughter and chatter filling the air. They walked along closely, as if they were family.
Chu Yang had taken a small opportunity to treat Wanrenjieâs injuries, secretly adding some vitality spring water. Wanrenjie immediately felt much lighter, praising him endlessly.
Chu Le'er, being small and weak, began to tire after a few steps, so Chu Yang picked her up onto his back.
Wanrenjie looked on with envy and strongly requested to carry her instead. Chu Yang, happy to have it easier, transferred Chu Le'er over.
Wanrenjie carried Chu Le'er on his shoulder and beamed with joy as they continued on their way.
Chu Le'er laughed happily, leaving behind a trail of silver bell-like giggles. She had a shimmering Amethyst hairpin in her hair, holding a cute little Amethyst pig in her left hand and a charming little Amethyst dog in her right...
All of which she cherished dearly.
Feeling quite accomplished, Wanrenjie regaled Chu Le'er with stories as they journeyed. Having seen much and experienced even more, he recounted both embarrassing tales and amusing anecdotes, weaving them into a narrative that captivated Chu Le'er.
Since they werenât in a hurry, it was fine to take it slow. Chu Yang was especially unconcerned: If they rushed, how would they find Wei Wuyan?
So, not long after they started walking, night fell.
They found a place near the mountains and water to set up camp, and everyone stopped.
Tents were pitched, and Cheng Duying took the initiative to hunt for some game, while the others chatted outside, laughter ringing out occasionally. Bao Buhuan, who had been resting in the carriage, heard the merriment outside and surprisingly managed to support himself and stumble out to join the conversation.
This made Wanrenjie even more grateful. Given Bao Buhuanâs injuries, normally it would have taken ten days or so for him to get out of bed, but after Chu Yang's treatment, he could move so quickly.
Just as they were chatting, Cheng Duying dashed out from the woods, holding three wild rabbits in one hand and skewering five or six mountain chickens with a branch in the other, returning with a full load.
Everyone laughed and then got busy.
"Where are you three brothers heading to?" Chu Yang asked with a smile as he poked at the campfire. Now, at Wanrenjieâs insistence, he no longer called him âuncleâ but rather âbrother.â
"This time, we were originally headed to the Black Pine Forest war zone, hoping to procure something cheap..." Wanrenjie sighed as he spoke, "This time, the Ye Family and the Xiao Clan among the nine great clans are at war, which is quite satisfying for everyone. Whichever family is wiped out would be a major good thing... We planned to fan the flames and stir up some trouble, but unexpectedly ran into that scoundrel Wei Wuyan!"
Chu Yang asked, "Do you have such deep-seated enmity with the nine great clans? You should know that they are not easy opponents... With your three auras, youâre still somewhat thin on the ground."
Wanrenjie smiled bitterly: "The nine great clans are wealthy and powerful, with experts like clouds. Even if the three of us trained our entire lives, we're only at the saint level ninth rank⊠Compared to the nine great clans, weâre simply not worth mentioning. However, there are always things in life that, although one knows it's impossible, must still be done."
Chu Yang genuinely didnât understand: "I would like to hear the details."
Wanrenjie sighed, and on the other side, Cheng Duying, who was roasting the mountain chickens, and Bao Buhuan, reclining on the ground, also sighed deeply. The firelight illuminated the night, casting shadowy looks on their faces.
