Chapter 396: Friends?
Chu Yang thought about this and could no longer sit still. He lifted the curtain of the horse carriage and was about to jump down. But as soon as he opened the curtain, he was taken aback, almost unable to believe his eyes.
He was clearly still walking within the Sky Tower Mountain Range, but where was the army?
Last night, the tide-like army that had come was undoubtedly the Iron Cloud's forces, so how come not a single figure could be seen now? Was it a dream?
All around him, the mountains and forests were still smoldering, with faint flickers of fire in some places.
Next to him was another horse carriage that looked rather shabby; two horsemen accompanied it, and apart from that, there were only himself and Tie Butian sitting in the carriage!
In total, there were four people!
None of them spoke; only the sounds of the wheels creaking as they traveled filled the air.
“What’s going on?” Chu Yang couldn’t help but voice his confusion. “Why are there only a few of us?”
The two horsemen looked as if the world owed them eight hundred coins, their faces stern and silent, only driving the carriage without acknowledging Chu Yang's question.
“I’m asking you!” Chu Yang said angrily.
“Shut up!” came a sharp reprimand.
Chu Yang was momentarily taken aback because it was the horseman driving his carriage who had spoken. When did horsemen become so formidable?
Chu Yang’s body floated out, standing atop the carriage, looking down to further confirm his suspicion: the army had indeed vanished.
And these two horsemen… Chu Yang retracted his head and stuck out his tongue. If he wasn’t mistaken, these two should be the two shadow experts who had always guarded Tie Butian closely.
Damn! No wonder they were so unfriendly!
This was the first time Chu Yang had seen the true appearances of these two shadows. They looked as if they were carved from the same mold—thin and tall, dressed in gray robes, resembling a cloth draped over a bamboo pole. Their high cheekbones and deep-set eyes made it seem as if combined, they barely had any flesh on them.
They were both around fifty or sixty years old.
He didn’t speak, but one of the shadows wouldn’t let him off easily: “Are you feeling better? You can jump now? Your recovery is quite fast, you truly have great fortune.”
Chu Yang found the tone to be a bit sarcastic. There seemed to be a lot of resentment hidden in those words. He involuntarily asked, “What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?” The shadow’s anger flared: “Your majesty sent out five hundred thousand troops to rescue you, while the pass is currently being besieged by over a million enemy troops. Everyone has returned to support, leaving only us few. Now do you understand?”
“What?” Chu Yang's heart shook; he hadn’t expected Tie Butian to take such a huge risk for him! This was practically putting the fate of the entire nation on the same scale as his own, and clearly, his own weight was even heavier.
This was a monumental risk!
Thinking this way, he suddenly felt a bit touched.
He realized why Tie Butian’s expression had been so sour earlier; it turns out it was because he alone had put the entire Iron Cloud Nation in peril. Anyone would feel quite upset about that…
The two shadows were equally astonished. Although Chu Yang's spring poison had been removed, there was no way he could be bouncing around like this now. When they checked his pulse while he was unconscious, his injuries had been severe to the point of being beyond repair. How could he be up and about now, looking seemingly unharmed?
This kid’s vitality is just too strong, isn’t it?
On the other side, Tie Butian remained silent, seemingly asleep.
The three did not realize that Tie Butian was lying in the carriage, drenched in sweat, his face pale, sweat almost soaking his clothes.
Chu Yang’s spring poison was exceedingly powerful, and Tie Butian, with no prior experience, had to endure such intense suffering—how could he withstand it? During the detoxification, Tie Butian had faced many life-and-death situations, and by the end, he was barely hanging on to life…
