CHAPTER 33: The Internal Traitor
As the night deepened, approaching the third watch, Chu Yang sat like a rock, lost in thought, his clothes fluttering gently in the night breeze, yet he remained completely still.
The fourth watch arrived.
The world suddenly plunged into its deepest darkness.
Just as Chu Yang was about to rise and return to his room, a sudden feeling of unease washed over him, as if something was amiss! His gaze sharpened, turning toward the mountain path on his left.
To the left was a small road leading into the Sky Tower, a very secretive path that branched off from another mountain range.
Under Chu Yang's watchful eyes, several dark shadows suddenly appeared at the edge of the cliff, swift as the wind, vanishing like phantoms in the pitch-black night. The direction they disappeared into was none other than the interior of the Sky Tower.
Chu Yang narrowed his eyes. The fourth watch was the most favorable time for night travelers! Moreover, this darkest moment lasted for less than half an hour. Clearly, these individuals had been hiding here for a long time, waiting for this very moment to act.
Their intentions were undoubtedly sinister!
Recalling Meng Chaoran's words about guarding the Sky Tower, Chu Yang's expression hardened. He promptly rose, his body shooting down the cliff like a meteor. After leveraging himself against the cliff wall a few times, he reached the bottom. He then quickly used the cover of rocks and trees to stealthily pursue the direction in which the three figures had disappeared.
Although he was merely a first grade warrior, he felt no fear! Even if he couldn’t defeat them, he was confident in his ability to escape. If these individuals truly had malicious intentions, Chu Yang felt he was more than capable of causing some chaos.
He pursued for several miles, breathing heavily.
Chu Yang's movements were light and graceful, seeming slow yet actually fast. If there were experts watching, they would surely be astonished. Every place he landed was an absolute blind spot, and as he flew through the air, various objects constantly obscured his figure.
It appeared that he was haphazardly seeking cover, but each time was flawlessly executed! He floated just several feet away, yet his eyes were always keenly aware of the nearby cover ahead and had already devised a perfect plan!
As Chu Yang advanced, he had chased for five or six miles, and from a distance, he could see the mountain gate of the Sky Tower. Suddenly feeling something, he immediately halted, swaying his body to slip into the shadows.
Next, he laid flat against the rocks, creeping forward. Although it was a slow movement, it was utterly silent…
Three black figures were quietly waiting in a hollow at the corner.
Not far in front of them was the mountain gate of the Sky Tower, where there were disciples on duty day and night, and not a small number of them. Each of the Nine Peaks sent one person to supervise and support one another.
Aside from the Purple Bamboo Garden, the other nine peaks were all within this mountain gate.
These individuals clearly did not dare to force their way in. While their strength could easily overpower the guarding disciples, it would still alert others.
It seemed they were waiting, or perhaps meeting here? Chu Yang mused internally, carefully shifting his position and slowly advancing another three feet. At this moment, he was less than ten feet away from the three figures.
All three were masked in black, cautiously hiding behind a large rock. Chu Yang glanced at their hiding spot and couldn’t help but admire their choice; it was clear they were seasoned veterans of the martial arts world. They had chosen a spot with three sides as dead angles, and the only exit had two paths, one of which was relatively hidden. This meant that even if something went wrong, they could quickly escape without being caught.
Chu Yang held his breath, his body seemingly fused with the rock, silently waiting. His patience was something he believed could rival anyone in the world!
