Gu Duxing was somewhat skeptical of Mo Tianji's rhetoric: “But they are innocent after all!”
Mo Tianji replied decisively, “Duxing... I don't want to unnecessarily harm the innocent either. But... since things have happened this way, I have no regrets!”
He paused and continued, “This time I miscalculated, but if it happened again... I would still do the same!”
“There is a saying that those who want to accomplish great things should not be bogged down by trivialities, and also... mercy does not command an army.” Mo Tianji said coldly, “A general achieving success still leaves countless bones on the battlefield, let alone reorganizing the entire Nine Heavens world?”
“Compassion must exist, but it cannot be excessive!” Mo Tianji propped himself up and stood up from the ground. “Now that we’ve talked so much, we’ve already wasted time. Big principles are useless; I’m too lazy to discuss them with you. If you can move, carry me to a safe place immediately and complete this mission.”
Gu Duxing snorted and casually threw his shield. Mo Tianji, quick-witted, managed to catch it and stowed it away in his ring. “You prodigal! This is the essence after burning; it can be of great use to the boss... and you just tossed it away?”
Gu Duxing rolled his eyes and coldly lifted Mo Tianji on his back, shaking him roughly a couple of times. Mo Tianji was already in pain, and after being jostled, he grimaced as he groaned, “You wait!”
Gu Duxing snorted again, and with a whoosh, he vanished, using all means to mask his presence. After making two turns, they arrived at a small cottage in the mountains, which must have been built by a hunter long ago and had since fallen into disrepair. Mo Tianji had cleaned it up a day in advance.
This place was a decoy that Mo Tianji had prepared beforehand; although he was sure nothing would go wrong, he still set up a buffer zone out of habit.
In case of unexpected ‘what-ifs,’ this location would provide temporary shelter and a ready-made identity to evade enemy tracking.
It must be said that Mo Tianji's foresight played a huge role at this moment...
Upon entering the room, Gu Duxing re-emerged in the guise of a hunter, his aura completely concealed. He looked like an ordinary mountain hunter.
Originally, there had been two of them, but now Mo Tianji was clearly unable to move; he could only lie in bed pretending to be sick. Gu Duxing even smeared his face with black...
For a moment, he reflected: such roles, including disguising as a corpse in a coffin, were meant for Ji Mo and Rocky Luo. Unexpectedly, all the preparation had ended up being used on himself...
Not long after Gu Duxing and Mo Tianji left, in the night, a misty figure in blue descended from the sky, landing straight at the spot where Gu Duxing and Mo Tianji had once occupied.
“It should be here.” The newcomer, with a dull expression, was none other than Lan Buhui.
As one of the ancestors of the nine great clans, his perception was indeed extraordinary, as he had tracked them down based on the impact of their landing.
The most tragic aspect of the Lan family's incident was that no one knew what had happened; all the informed parties had perished in an instant. Not a single person survived!
And this knowledge only referred to those who ‘knew that Mo Tianji and Gu Duxing had sought refuge.’ As for the cause and effect of the explosion, no one had any clue.
The only survivor had a vague impression of two young boys rushing out of their home, but those two were quite unfamiliar…
Hmm, just this little bit of information.
In a rush, Lan Buhui soared into the air. He had only managed to see countless people being blown away and, after calming his blood, he began searching one by one. However, several he found had already turned into corpses.
When he reached the direction of Mo Tianji and Gu Duxing, it was already the third or fourth person he had searched for.
“Here it fell... breaking branches, and it stopped here, with blood traces... but did not linger here. It left...” Lan Buhui observed the traces and murmured, “If it were family members who had a breath left, they would definitely stay longer... but this person walked hastily... it shouldn’t be.”
